How to Correct User Input to Proper Casing in Text Input Field

Hi all. I'm creating an app that introduces members of the team. When users click on an item in the gallery the form (a view form) shows info about that item. Users can click on icons to either add, edit, or delete an item (within an edit form). Everything functions in one screen and both forms are connected to one gallery which in turn is connected to a SharePoint list. For this question, I'm only focused on what happens within the edit form. I'm having trouble finding a way to ensure when the user types into a text field, it corrects that text to the correct casing (using the Proper( ) function). I found an old solution and changed it to fit my needs with partial success.

Original Solution: Variable in Text Input Default Property

OnChange

UpdateContext({varUpper: Upper(Self.Text)});
Reset(Self)

Default

varUpper

Source: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/Make-All-Text-Entries-Capital/td-p/257081

@WarrenBelz  @ClaireAllen

I changed the code to:

OnChange

UpdateContext({varProper: Proper(Self.Text)});
Reset(Self)

Default

varProper

I added this code to the submit button:

OnSelect

UpdateContext({varProper: Blank()})

This solution corrects the casing once the user clicks out of the field (perfect!), and once the user submits the form, then clicks on the add icon the text within the variable is cleared (perfect!), but once the user submits the form then clicks on the edit icon, the field is completely blank when it should be showing the info of the selected item (not perfect!). Is there a way to update the context of the variable to Parent.Default when the form is in edit mode or when the edit icon is selected? Or something similar? I need the app to completely clear that variable once the form is submitted, so when the add icon is clicked the new form will be blank and when the edit icon is clicked the form will display info for the item selected. Thanks all.

Thank you @Griffin_C  and @WarrenBelz - your combined solutions did the trick! When the user clicks outside the text input, the casing is corrected (perfect!) and the variable updates appropriately after the user submits the form. After the user submits the form and clicks on the add icon, the text input is blank (perfect!). After the user submits the form and clicks on the edit icon, the text input displays the info for the selected item (perfect!). So my code now reads:

Text Input - OnChange

UpdateContext({varProper: Proper(Self.Text)});
Reset(Self)

 TextInput - Default

Coalesce(
   varProper,
   ThisItem.Title
)

 Form - OnSuccess

UpdateContext({varProper: Blank()})

First, you should move the

UpdateContext({varProper: Blank()})

To the OnSuccess of the form. Putting it on the same button that submits the form will frequently cause the text in the input to register as blank when the form is submitted in the same OnSelect (Yes, even if you put the UpdateContext after the SubmitForm, the UpdateContext will not wait for the SubmitForm to finish). Moving it to the OnSuccess will ensure that the text will not be blank until after it gets submitted.

Secondly, on your edit button, you'd want to put

UpdateContext({varProper: FormItem.FormColumn})

Where "FormItem" is whatever method you're using to get the Item for the form, and FormColumn is the name of the column where that text is stored.

Thanks, Griffin, but no go. As you directed, I moved the first code to the form's OnSuccess. And added the second code to the edit icon's OnSelect. My actual code there is

UpdateContext({varProper: employeelist.Selected.Title})

Works well after the user submits the form and clicks on the add icon. But, when the user submits the form, then clicks on the edit icon, the field is blank, when it should show the info of the the item selected.

Yes, that's because you set the variable to Blank(). Any time you want the text in that field to show the existing title of the selected item, you'll need to use UpdateContext({varProper: employeelist.Selected.Title})

You would only want it to be blank when you select the button/icon to create a new item.

@powerpepper ,

Adding here as that was my post. If you set varProper to Blank() OnSuccess of the Form, you can make the Default

Coalesce(
   varProper,
   ThisItem.Title
)

Thanks for your help, Griffin. Right now, I'm still having issues, but will continue to play around with it.
