How to Default a People Picker to current user & save to SharePoint List source

Hi,

I am trying to create a very simple PowerApp based on a SharePoint list.  This list has a Person field.  When I initially create the PowerApp, if the user types in a person's name and chooses one, it saves fine.  As soon as I try to default the Person field in the PowerApp to "current user" (using any of the User(). syntax options), my PowerApp stops saving back to the SharePoint source list. 

Any ideas?

I set that on the Apps OnStart...you don't have to do that part..I just use in several places so I do.

If you don't set that variable than anywhere I have _CurrentUser you would instead use User() ...no difference other than that.

ok so I'm SO close LOL.. no errors and name pops up fine but just still not saving back to the sharepoint list.. (it's a customized form)   will keep playing with it.  I'm using User()

You might double check that your People Field on your SharePoint list does not allow for multiples.

Thanks for your help @rebeccas  Yay got it working ! as per your first post. I just deleted the field and added it again I think I had been playing around with it so much there was probably other stuff in there that was preventing it working 😁

I was having issues then realized I needed to set the code:
"If(New_Form_frm.Mode = New, Office365Users.MyProfile(), ThisItem.Requestor)" in the Default of the DATACARD (The outermost) as I was trying to set it on the inner DATACARDVALUE Default property... as soon as I moved the snippet out a level it started working perfectly... Hope that helps and makes sense.

I'm trying to use this approach, but it seems like I can't put quotes in JSON, I always complain about the first comma after any quotes. Any idea? Thank you.

This does not go on the Default of the card, it needs to go on the Update of it. The Default needs to be put back to ThisItem.Usuarios_Vinculados

The Update of card needs to be:

If(EditForm1.Mode = FormMode.New,
{DisplayName: _CurrentUser.FullName,
Claims:"i:0#.f|membership|" & Lower(_CurrentUser.Email),
Department:"",
Email: _CurrentUser.Email,
JobTitle:"",
Picture:""},

If you have the Current User being set as a variable before you get this screen by using = Set(_CurrentUser, User())

If you don't then you can use:

Claims:"i:0#.f|membership|" & Lower(User().Email),
Department:"",
Email: User().Email,
JobTitle:"",
Picture:""},
ThisItem.Usuarios_Vinculados)

Thank you. I also found that in my version JSON properties must be separated by semicolons and not commas. It worked after I changed it.

Yes, I forget sometimes that different regions have differences on that.
