How to change size of embedded canvas app?

I have an embedded canvas app that only needs to show 3 fields so I don't need the app to be very big. I have changed the screen size of the app to 400w x 250h. This is what it says to do here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/embedded-canvas-app-customize-scr...

However, this does not change the size of the field that the embedded app is displayed in. The field is still the size of a standard mobile app and does not change when I change the size of the embedded canvas app in it. Is there a way to make this field smaller?

Thanks

Hi @DerekHurley ,

Do you want to change the control size of an embed canvas app in model driven app?

I've made a similar test and I found that:
if you just change the embed canvas app's screen size, the controls inside it will not change automatically.

I suggest you not only change the screen's size but also change the controls' size in the embed canvas app.

I've made a similar test for your reference:

1)click the customize button when add the embed canvas app.

2)set the controls' size based on the app's size

for example:

display a form(with 3 fields) in one screen.
set form's Height:

App.Height

set form's Width

App.Width

set datacards' Width:

Form1.Width

 set datacards' Height:

Form1.Height/3*0.9

set textinputs' Width:

Form1.Width*0.8

set textinputs' Height:

Form1.Height/6*0.9

change the text size: 10

Then the form's fields size will change with the screen size.

Do not forget to customize the screen's size:

Hi @v-yutliu-msft ,

No, I don't want to change the size of the controls in the canvas app, I want to change the size of the embedded app on the model-driven form.

This is my model-driven form with the embedded app highlighted:

This is my embedded canvas app (with a custom screen size of 400w x 250h):

This results in:

You can see the borders around the canvas app, I want the field (embedded app) to be that size too, is that possible?

Thanks

Hi @DerekHurley ,

Ok, so you want to change the control size, am I right?

I'm afraid it's not supported to customize this in model-driven app currently.

You could post your idea here:

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Apps-Ideas/idb-p/PowerAppsIdeas

What's more, you could consider take a try to split the Section which contains the field your embedded canvas app related to into multiple columns as below:

then try your embedded app again. This may change your embed canvas app's layout .

Hi @v-youtliu-msft,

Please elaborate on "this is not supported". There is a specific Microsoft doc article for such scenario to embed canvas app on a model-driven form. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/embedded-canvas-app-customize-scr...

It seems you refer to "it does not work" to "it's not supported" and asking to submit an idea. What am I missing?

Hi,

I don't know exactly how, but it seems to be working now. I initially thought it was by going to model-driven form and the field, choose Controls tab and select Canvas App, at the bottom of the window is a tickbox Hide default Control which I checked and it resized to a canvas app size. The. When I unticked it, it no longer expanded. I really don't know exactly how I did it, but it's definitely working. There may be a bug or something. Thanks for help

Did you modify the formxml?
it seems that there are to many rows behind the control.

I use the XrmToolbox : FormXml Editor for that.

Very useful - thanks. In my experience, scale to fit is a nightmare and should always be switched off otherwise the embedded app ends up way too small at lower resolutions. the downside of having it switched off is trying to minimise the extra white space at the larger resolutions, but setting your app width and height to look about right and fit, then setting all containers and forms to be Parent.Width, etc all the way down the hierarchy will help minimise it.
