How to create a button that allows customer to add a new choice to a multi select dropdown menu?

Dear all,

I built in my edit form a drop-down menu (Combobox) , with the option of choosing multiple entries/items.

Now, I would like the customer, who is using this form, to add additional items, that are currently not covered by the given choices.
This new item should be added to the choices in the sharepoint list.

I already tried the following approach: How to Add Other Choices in Dropdown List

Unfortunately, this approach does not fulfill my requirements:

1) The new value is not added to the choices, but just visible in the made entry.

2) As soon as I like to choose a second option in addition to my new created option, the new option disappears and vice versa.

Therefore I thought to add a button, that allows a new choice entry, which than can be selected in the drop-down menu as suggested by jwells if I got it right (Source: Dropdown control allow end user to add a choice)

Can someone provide me support or has any other suggestions?

Hi @FabianStrelow 

For this I would leverage on sharepoint api call to add an entry in the choice column and then just refresh your dropdown so that the new value appears.

1. So you create a power autoamte workflow that can be triggered by power apps then you add an input of type text (this will be the value you want to add as new item)
2. Then you put an Send an HTTP request to SharePoint action

   1. Site Address: Provide the URL of your SharePoint site.

   2. Method: Select "POST" from the dropdown.

   3. Uri:/_api/web/lists/getByTitle('<list title>')/fields/getByInternalNameOrTitle('<column name>')/Choices.

      replace list title and column name to match your sharepoint list

   4. In headers
      1. Accept, Value: application/json;odata=verbose.
      2. Content-Type, Value: application/json;odata=verbose
   5. In the Body you put
      1. {
         "__metadata": {
         "type": "SP.FieldChoice"
         },
         "Choices": {
         "__metadata": {
         "type": "Collection(Edm.String)"
         },
         "results": ["INPUT_VALUE_FROM_TRIGGER"]
         }
         }
         replace INPUT_VALUE_FROM_TRIGGER to match your input.

Then just refresh your combobox item and the new value should appear.

Tbh, I am a Powerapps beginner and just created once - with help of a friend - a Power Automate workflow.
The code you provided, is it for PApps or PAutomate?

And may I ask you for more detail, how o create the PAutomate workflow?
