If they are Choice columns, then you need to append .Value to your column property.
Project_ListBox.Selected.'Project Type' .Value
I hope this is helpful for you.
Thanks @RandyHayes but it didn't work.
I tried
What is the Items property of your Project_ListBox control?
Can you explain what you are expecting from that formula?
Sort(
Filter('Projects / Services',
'Projects / Services (Views)'.'Active Projects',
Client.Name = ClientSelector.Selected.Name
),'Last Used',
SortOrder.Descending
)
The part highlighted in Red does not make any sense...is that another datasource? A control?
And finally for your Selected.xxxx, it will not be Value as suggested, it will be any column in your datasource. So you can substitute the Value with a valid column name. But that Filter is suspicious.
Thanks @RandyHayes
I built that filter a while ago, and tbh I'm still a noobie with this.
As I recall it was the only thing that I managed to get working after hours of tearing my hair out. What I'm trying to do with the filter is list the active projects where the client (which is a custom table) is the same as selected on a different list box.
The bit highlighted in red is a view in the dataverse (built for dynamics originally).
@RandyHayes you've got me some of the way there.
So I am listing from a view (because I couldn't work out how to list the data I wanted based on owner and active state). And the column that I want to evaluate wasn't a column in the view, so the data wasn't there. However I have now added the column to the view, and I still have the same issue. I tried both the text and the numeric values.
"Membership"
and
117280000
In case it is helpful I this also throws the same error
Project_ListBox.Selected.'Chargeable time & expense' = true
whilst
Project_ListBox.Selected.'Chargeable time & expense'
works fine.
Any help appreciated.
thanks
So, I'm not entirely tracking all of the column types in your datasource
If you are trying to filter on client name and for active projects, then I am going to make the assumption that Active Projects is a Boolean (yes/no) column. If so, then this formula would be more reliable:
Sort(
Filter('Projects / Services',
'Active Projects',
Client.Name = ClientSelector.Selected.Name
),
'Last Used',
SortOrder.Descending
)
So the key is this, when you type in Project_ListBox.Selected.'Project Type'. (notice the trailing dot) what does the formula editor show as options to choose from?
And then, importantly, once you select the appropriate column in the editor, what data type does it show? You were specifically trying to match to a numerical value (117280000) in your original post, so, is whatever you choose after the dot/period in the formula a numeric type?
And now, this all goes back to your original error - "Incompatible type" - Project_ListBox.Selected is going to be a record (a selected record from your Items). You need to specify the column in the record you want to compare in order to compare to a simple type (number in this case). A record will not compare to a number, and this you will see the original error.
Many thanks @RandyHayes
I've added your sort filter. 'Active projects' are those that have "statecode"= 0 what should I be putting?
No matter for our purposes, I have just left that out, so using
Sort(
Filter('Projects / Services',
Client.Name = ClientSelector.Selected.Name
),
'Last Used',
SortOrder.Descending
)
which gives us a project list to work with (though includes inactive projects as we haven't filtered these out).
So the key is this, when you type in Project_ListBox.Selected.'Project Type'. (notice the trailing dot) what does the formula editor show as options to choose from?
With the trailing dot I get nothing.
Project_ListBox.Selected. gives me this:
when I select project type (or any other option) I get an internal error.
