How to filter a list depends on another list

Hi,

I have somethimg like this :

and I create a List for "Element" and another for "Typ". Do I need a 3rd List to display the dependency (represent by "x") between Element and Typ?

What is the best way to make it in sharepoint and after to display it in power apps (with Filter) in a gallery?

Have someone a idea?

Hi there @dkayt ,

 

We have two ways to do it, the way I see it.

 

The first one is quite simple but not so much dynamic.

  • For a simple solution I would advise creating only one SharePoint List with the collumns:
    1. "Element" of type Text;
    2. "Type1", "Type2", "Type3", "Type4", "Type5", "Type6", "Type7" of type Boolean / Yes or No 
  • On the PowerApp side you only have to create a gallery and Filter it accordingly to the "Type" required (you can use a dropdown with the Types available in order to use its value in the Filter)

this one is pretty straightforward to create but does not suport dynamic values, as you have to edit this list's structure in order to add any new type as a collumn.

 

 

  • For the more dynamic and (a litle more complex) solution, I would advise you to create 3 Lists:
    • Elements, where you can use the default "Title" collumn.
    • Type, where you can also use the default "Title" collumn.
    • Element Types - This is were it gets trickier:
      • Create a Lookup type collumn pointing to the "Elements" list and "Title" collumn, you can name it "Element".
      • Create a Lookup type collumn pointing to the "Types" list and "Title" collumn, you can name it "Type".
    • On the PowerApp side, you will have to filter the list by checking the value on the list "Element Types" collumn "Type".

This way is more dynamic and easier to maintain if needed, but it comes at a cost, the development complexity increases a lot using Lookup collumn and so, make sure you try this only if you know what we are talking about.

 

 

I hope you can understand my idea but your question is still in a very "initial" state so it's not so easy to explain.

Can you expand on what you have?  Are you stating that you have lists (in SharePoint) at this point and you want to create a relationship between them?  Or are you stating that you have some information in your App and you are trying to correlate that information with some list and/or create some other information?

 

Not entirely sure of what you are trying to do here.

Actually I have lists in SP and I want to create a relationship between them.

So what is the relationship?  You stated you have a list of elements and a list of Typ.

How do you know that Typ1 is associated with Element1??

@dkayt, in that case, you can use the same logic, but instead of creating a 3rd list, use the "Elements" list and then, reusing what I have writen:

  • Create a Lookup type collumn pointing to the "Types" list and "Title" collumn, you can name it "Type".
  • On the PowerApp side, you will have to filter the list by checking the value on the list "Element Types" collumn "Type".

Thanks for replying. As you can see in my screenshot above, the "x" indicates the association between Type1 and Element1. Do you want me to be more detailed?

I understand from the picture that it is an association - but what makes it so?  Just the fact that it is in that picture?  Will it never change?  Will it always be that?

 

If that is a hard and complete association, that is not going to change, then you can do it all with one list.

 

If it is expected to change in some way, then some of the suggestions that @Feiteira has mentioned (without the use of a Lookup column - which is something to avoid in this case) will provide some of the flexibility you might need.

 

But, without further details, not sure if you even need any flexibility.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
