How to write data from a Combobox back to SQL

Hi All

I am new at this so I'm not sure if what I'm asking is very simple, or not possible at all, but...

I have an app that allows users to gerate the next PO number from a SQL table, but all the fields are free text

I thought it woud be more helpful to replace a couple of them with cascading comboboxes, so that can pick a supplier/service from a list, or write something new if it's not on the list

They work great in the sense they dislay the suppliers and services in a list

But they don't write back to my MobilePO table like the rest of the fields on the form 

Is it possible to have a combobox display data from one table, but write back to another when the form is submitted? And will the combobox still show as a required field?

Any advice would be apprecaited

Yes, you should be able to do that.

Are your combo boxes inside a datacard within the form (not just placed over the top, check the navigator on the left to confirm the hierarchy)?

You should be able to change the Update property of the Datacard to something like cboSupplier.Selected.Supplier (cboSupplier being the name of the combo, Supplier being a field name in the Items source of the combo). Make sure the Datacard is tied to the correct field in the table you want to update.

Thanks Paul, that sounds hopeful 

I had both comboboxes in the same card so I've split them into 1 card each

But I can't see an Update property? There is on all the other cards, but not the comboboxes 😕

Can you share a bit more information about your issue?

Do you want to display date from another sql  table within a combobox control and write back to the current sql table?

You can replace the original textinput control with a combobox control in the corresponding datacard.

You have no need to create a new custom card. A  new custom card has no update property. If you use submit function to submit the form,

It could not submit the new Custom Data card value(which don’t have update property).

I made a test and it worked.

Set the items property of combobox1 to:

'[dbo].[suppliertable]'.supplier

Set the update property of supplier_datacard2 to:

ComboBox1.Selected.supplier

You can also use patch function to achieve your needs.
