I cannot 'Save As' on PowerApps

Until this time, I saved every change I made in the program by taking 'save as'. The reason for this was that the change was not reflected at some times when I normally saved it.
However, now I cannot 'save as' in the program.
And even if I record normally, the last change I made does not appear when I play the program.
I have never published the program yet.

Every time I open the program, I get a warning that another user is working on this program, but no one else has access to it except me.
Also, in the screens section on the left side, I occasionally see my own user picture.

I get a warning like below.

And when I click the more button I see this error code;

{"error":{"code":"ApplicationAlreadyExists","message":"The application '723ce90e-9bef-4f1a-afb3-2febb8f9a995' already exists and cannot be newly created via the POST operation. Please specify a different name or use PUT to update the existing application."}}

Hi @tguckiran,

Save As will create a duplicate of your application - the name matches an existing duplicate which is causing the error. Saving changes can be done by just clicking the 'Save' button in the upper-right corner. (or the shortcut CTRL S)

Using Save will save the changes but not display them in play mode. In other words, your changes are saved 'within the editor'. If you want to push the changes to the live version (playing the application outside of the editor), you will have to publish the app. Non-published, saved changes will not appear in the live version of the application.

You can find more information on saving and publishing apps here. Additionally, it would be beneficial to delete the duplicate, older versions of your app. Additional information on deleting apps can be found here.

Seeing your own picture in the Canvas Tree View, will most likely mean that you have the app open in multiple browser tabs. (or recently closed the app by simply closing the browser and now reopen the app)

If this solves your question, would you be so kind as to accept it as a solution & give it a thumbs up.

Thanks!

Hello @LaurensM

Firstly thank you for your answer and also effort,

I think your answer is my solution. I will accept this answer for solution.

But I have a little bit question
When I play my app after published, I see an error like "This version is not latest version please refresh the page".
Is this normal?
If it is not how can I solve this?

Again thank you for answer and time.

Hi @tguckiran,

Glad I was able to help!

That is actually not an error but rather a notification for the users that they are still running an old version of the app. When a user runs the app when the publishing process is still ongoing, they will get a notification 'A new version is coming...'. Generally publishing happens very fast, but depending on your app complexity and size it may take a bit longer - hence the notifications.

Once the version is published and available, they will receive a notification that the latest version is now available. Refreshing the browser or clicking on the refresh button will do the trick. You can find additional information on that notification here.

As a note, you don't always have to publish your app in order to preview the app. You can use the preview feature to mimic the live app functionality (since recently even mimicking certain device screens).

I hope this helps!

Hello Lauren,

Thank you again for your answer.

I have another now sorry but I hope this is the last. 😁

I need to lock my App to another user.
What I means; I want only me to edit my app.

How can I do this?

Thank you again.

I too have started seeing the "ApplicationAlreadyExists" Error this morning.

The problem is, I KNOW that there is NOT an application with the same name as I am trying to save

The full error message says:
{"error":{"code":"ApplicationAlreadyExists","message":"The application '4f37fbb6-8a64-4ad5-8f9b-581a81fcdeee' already exists and cannot be newly created via the POST operation. Please specify a different name or use PUT to update the existing application."}}

This did not happen a couple of days ago, so there has definitely been a change to the platform to cause this error.

This seems to coincide with the change of Release from 3.23075.14 to 3.23081.12, which my tenancy auto-upgraded to sometime between 14th August and 17th August.

If I change the Apps Authoring Version back to 3.23075.14, I can SaveAs without Issues (Both new App instances, and saving over existing apps)

- so it is definitely a new BUG in Authoring version 3.23081

(Don't get me started again on MS simply forcing PowerApps Engine updates on us without asking...)

Interestingly, the "Release Notes" for 3.23081 say:
"No new features have been publicly disclosed as a part of this released version."

And:
"No specific fixes or improvements have been publicly disclosed as a part of this released version"

- Amazingly Useful, as always - which is why Release Notes is in Quotation marks.

Seriously guys, exactly what is the point of that? There was obviously a reason for the update, and things have obviously changed (because the SaveAs is broken) - so just tell us!

James.

On another Note - Regarding the "This version is not latest version please refresh the page" Notifications.

BE CAREFUL - This can't be trusted... (just like many other elements of this platform)

In My experience, even if you click the "Refresh" button, or Reload the Page, you will sometimes NOT get the newly published version, and still load the old version.

My advice is to include a Version Number somewhere on your app and Increment it for EVERY PUBLISH action. This is the only reliable way to ensure that you newly published version is loaded instead of the old version.

James.

Oh yeah, and something else to be careful about:
The "Preview Feature" within the Studio can't be trusted either - Apps behave differently in the Studio than they do when played after publishing.

Always do proper testing in a Published Instance of your App for reliable results.

(There are also some features such as URL Parameters and Save/LoadData that do not work in the Studio at all).

James.

I too am getting this message - again, it's not because the name is the same - I can change it to 'best app ever' and it still says it's the same. How can I fix it?

Hi @steshepherd ,

I believe its a bug in Authoring Version 3.23081.

If you roll your Apps Authoring version to 3.23075, (Under Settings -> Support)
You can probably "Save As" then.

... at least, this worked for me!

James.
