Imported Solution and the existing solution must Both be managed for upgrade

Hello

I am trying to import an update to a Solution into Production.  An earlier version of the solution exists in Production, and it is a managed solution.  I exported as a managed solution from my development environment and now I am trying to imported it into Production.

However I keep getting this error -

Imported Solution and the existing solution must Both be managed for upgrade

Both the version in Production and the Import version are Managed solutions.  ANy ideas why i keep getting this error ?

Looks like you have unmanaged and managed solutions in the target environment. Also, make sure that whenever you import a new version of the solution to the target environment you use the same solution and increase the version. Do not make changes to the target environment directly. Just introduce all your changes via the solution

If my suggestion helped you, please give it a Thumbs up and Mark it as a Solution so that it can benefit others in the community.

Hello thanks for your response

I triple checked- the solution is a Managed solution in Production and i am exporting a managed solution.  I never make changes in Production environment. only in Development and then export and Import into Production.

I did some more digging and it looks like the error message is misleading.

I selected the Solution and then looked at the History.  There was more information on the error.  It showed:

Error code:

8004F01D

Exception message

Solution dependencies exist, cannot uninstall. DependencyCount : 1

So I selected the SOlution and checked the dependencies.  I get the same message that cannot uninstall solution because of dependencies.  It shows a component library that i am using in 2 different solutions as the dependency.

I did a search and found this article which looked promising

Cannot Uninstall Solution error when removing solutions - Dynamics 365 Sales | Microsoft Learn

However, I tried to follow the steps, and delete one of the solutions, however, i always get the same message.  Cannot delete the solution because of the dependency.  SO I modified the solution that I am trying to delete and removed the component library, and tried to import this new version into Production, but still get the same message.  Cannot upgrade the solution because cannot delete the old version because of the dependency.

Hello,

Same thing happened with me, Error is misleading and actual error in history was "There is another solution uninstall going at the same time."

Hello,

Today I am facing the same issue in Target Environment. At first, I tried to export the solution with a higher version, but it does not import into Target Environment.

And I have just checked the Same Solutions Version which I exported previously. The solution in the target environment has a lower version compared with the Solution in the current environment. So I just decrease the version in the current environment now it's working fine.

OK what does this mean? It will remove itself? Or will it take time?

I have a solution and changed the target to the current environment version - however the changes do not appear to have come through? Did your go through and get applied?

Did you get anywhere with this one? I am having the same issue and it's not liking the change I am making or I am unable to overwrite the existing solution with the remove components that are causing the issue. It just doesn't seem to overwrite the solution dependencies

This might be because you might have altered the flow in the destination environment which creates an unmanaged layer on top. Remove the unmanaged layer and the flow should update just fine.

I have several developers working on the instance - would be hard to tell which was changed - is there a way to find that out specifically? Any log or reference to what is causing the issue?
