(In)Visible based on result of conditional formula

Hey dears,

following problem:

I have a Combobox with a conditional IF formula in.

Now, I`d like to make another Dropdown field visible or invisible, based on the result of the Combobox.

With the usual DataCardValueXX.Selected.Value = "example" it doesn`t work.

Anybody an idea?

I didn't even consider at first, but after putting in some thought on it, I noticed I never do that when I want a blank value on a table, I'd usually put [Blank()] or [""]. Jesus Christ . . . Well . . . then, does it all work now then? If so I'm glad because this took way more time than it should've!

Greetings @IvenSch.

To make a dropdown, or datacard visible or not, there are two ways to do it in a nutshell. Either create and update a variable when you change the combobox selected item/s. Or directly make the IF statement on the Visible property of the Dropdown . . .

Variable Approach | OnChange property of Combobox

If(
   'YOUR CONDITIONING HERE';
   Set(yourVarName: true);
   Set(yourVarName: false)
)

Variable Approach | Visibility property of Dropdown

yourVarName

Visibility Approach |  Visible property of Dropdown

If(
   'YOUR CONDITIONING HERE';
   true;
   false
)

Hopefully this did help you out enough, otherwise, feel free to reply!

Hi @IvenSch ,

There is no obvious error with your formula.  Where does your formula on? It should be on Visible of Dropdown.

You can try @AmínAA 's method firstly. You can also provide Items of Combo box and screenshots about your test.

Best regards,

Rimmon

Thanks for your explanation. I`m not really sure, how to do this.

This is the conditional formula of my Combobox DataCardValue22:

If(
  DataCardValue5.Selected.Value = "Material / Hardware (Non-R&D)";
    ["Cost Center"; "Sales Order"; "Internal Project (I-XXXXXX)"];

If(
  DataCardValue5.Selected.Value = "Software Licenses / IT Software  (Non-R&D)"
  And
  DataCardValue40.Selected.Value="Subscription (Non CAPEX)";
  ["Internal Project (I-XXXXXX)";"Cost Center";"Sales Order"];
   DataCardValue40.Selected.Value="Intangible Asset (CAPEX)";
    ["Cost Center"];
    DataCardValue40.Selected.Value="Maintenance (Non CAPEX)";
    ["Internal Project (I-XXXXXX)";"Cost Center";"Sales Order"];

If(
    DataCardValue5.Selected.Value="R&D All requirements (D-XXXXXX)";
    ["R&D Project"];

If(
    DataCardValue5.Selected.Value="Services (Non-R&D)";
    ["Internal Project (I-XXXXXX)";"Cost Center";"Sales Order"];

If(
    DataCardValue5.Selected.Value="Other Cost Center related expenses (e.g. trainings, offsite)";
    ["Cost Center"];
[]

    )
    )
    )
    )
)

 This is to give the user a customized seletion, based on previous selections.

Based on the selection he does then, there should appear the next selection. So, if he e.g. selects Cost Center, a dropdown field with the different Cost Centers should appear.

Greetings @IvenSch!

Assuming those tables ["Cost Center" . . .] contain the fields you want to enable or disable, I'd recommend to use either a Set() or UpdateContext() to create visibility variables for each field . . . Also, instead of using an If, you might want to use a Switch, since it's clearer to read, at least imo, and has other benefits.

OnSelect or OnChange property of combobox

UpdateContext({varCostCenterVisible: false; varInternalProjectVisible: false; varRDProjectVisible: false; varSalesOrderVisbile: false});; //DISABLES ALL VISIBILITY VARIABLES ON SELECTION

Switch(
	DataCardValue5.Selected.Value;					//YOUR FIELD TO EVALUATE
	"Material / Hardware (Non-R&D)";				//YOUR FIRST RESPONSE
	 UpdateContext(
		{
			varCostCenterVisible: true; 			//ENABLE VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			varSalesOrderVisbile: true; 			//ENABLE VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			varInternalProjectVisible : true //ENABLE VISIBILITY VARIABLES
		}
		);
	"Software Licenses / IT Software (Non-R&D)";	//YOUR SECOND RESPONSE
	Switch(
		DataCardValue40.Selected.Value; //NESTED FIELD TO EVALUATE WITHIN YOUR SECOND RESPONSE
		"Subscription (Non CAPEX)"; //NESTED FIRST RESPONSE
		UpdateContext(
			{
				varInternalProjectVisible: true;	//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
				varCostCenterVisible: true;			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
				varSalesOrderVisbile: true			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			}
			);
		"Intangible Asset (CAPEX)"; //NESTED SECOND RESPONSE
		UpdateContext(
			{
				varCostCenterVisible: true;			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			}
			);
		"Maintenance (Non CAPEX)"; //NESTED THIRD RESPONSE
		UpdateContext(
			{
				varInternalProjectVisible: true;	//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
				varCostCenterVisible: true;			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
				varSalesOrderVisbile: true			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			}
			)
		);
		"R&D All requirements (D-XXXXXX)";			//YOUR THIRD RESPONSE
		UpdateContext(
			{
				varRDProjectVisible: true;			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			}
			);
		"Services (Non-R&D)";						//YOUR FOURTH RESPONSE
		UpdateContext(
			{
				varInternalProjectVisible: true;	//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
				varCostCenterVisible: true;			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
				varSalesOrderVisbile: true			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			}
			);
		"Other Cost Center related expenses (e.g. trainings, offsite)";	//YOUR FIFTH RESPONSE
		UpdateContext(
			{
				varCostCenterVisible: true;			//ENABLES VISIBILITY VARIABLES
			}
			)
	)

Visible Property of other fields

Cost center field = varCostCenterVisible
Internal Project field = varInternalProjectVisible
R&D Project field = varRDProject
Sales order field = varSalesOrderVisible

Hi there @IvenSch!

Can you use Alt + F8 to show all the errors, and tell me all the errors? as I gave you the code, it should work properly unless I made any syntax error, which may have very well happened since I wrote it in the reply directly XD

Edit: I just noticed an actualy syntax error . . . After the UpdateContext() function just put ;; since those are two different functions that need to be executed sequentially . . . I'll edit it in my previous comment as well!

I'll be awaiting your response!

Sure, here you are...

Hi there @IvenSch . . .

Do you by any chance use anything other than (;) to separate arguments?
Maybe (,) becuase it's almost as if the first part of the code doesn't recognise the (;) as a way to separate arguments within the UpdateContext function . . .

When I try out that same code, it doesn't show any kind of problem . . .

AmnAA_0-1719322421190.png

Ok, I found the error now. As you said, a (,) instead of a (;).

But now I have another problem. Even if I add the 'varCostCenterVisible' or the 'varInternalProjectVisible' in the box 'Visible' of the Cost Center or Internal Project box, they are always shown, independetly of the choice before.

For RDprojct it works.
