In my canvas app, how do I change the selected dropdown value which is tied to a data card?

@kwall - you have provided extremely little detail or context. Based purely on the subject heading, you will need to right click on the DataCard and unlock it in order to modify a control inside a DataCard.

Thanks. However, the data card is already unlocked and is tied to a dataverse choice column.

Sorry for not providing more info.  To clarify, I am looking for the code that can be used in the canvas app to set the drop down to an alternate value.

To set the default value for the field to be something different than the record default value, then you need to edit the default value of the control within the data card, and leave the default value of the data card set to the original default it was set to begin with. 

I previously answered a similar question to this: Re: SharePoint List Caching - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com). To set a default to something different, you need to set it at the control level, not the data card level.

1. Do you want to set the dropdown to an alternate value from the existing list of choices in that choice column?
2. If yes to above, based on what condition? For example, do you simply want the dropdown to be populated with a default value whenever the Form is set to New?
3. If no, do you want to set the dropdown to a different set of choices?

Please provide detail.

To further clarify:

I would like to reset the dropdown value to one of the other pre-defined choice values. This drop down value needs to be set, based on the selected value on another drop down vaue on the canvas app.

New form: default should be blank/empty - dataverse choice col does not have a default value.
Edit form: default comes from dataverse.

1. Are you trying to create a dependent (cascading) drop-down list? In other words, do you want to limit the available options in the dropdown based on the selected value in other dropdown field?

@kwall - if both Choice columns are Local Dataverse Choices, you can apply the below to the DefaultSelectedItems property of the ComboBox you want to set a specific Choice:

Note that the syntax for Local and Global Choices vary . A Local Choice requires both the field name and the plural name of the Dataverse table.

E.g. : Choices('Your Local Choice Column Name (Table Plural Name)')

The quickest way to identify the syntax is to simply add that Local Choice field as a Dataverse into your Form, select the automatically generated Combobox, and then look at the syntax used in the Items property of that ComboBox.

Thank you for the help, but as a newbie still trying to get it to work.

I finally plugged in some code without errors but it doesn't do anything!

This code is on DefaultSelectedItems of dcvStatusEmpl

1st Combo box is called: dcvArchiveFlag : bound to Dataverse tbl, ArchiveFlag col of Yes/No Choice type, local var
2nd Combo box is called: dcvStatusEmpl : bound to Dataverse tbl, Status col of Choice(Active, Inactive)
