Insert or update in Power Apps based if a record exists

I have the following code:

It is supposed to add if it doesn't exist or update if it does. However the code is not working. I am not getting an error message, but it does not update.

You will need to check if the record exists first and then do something based on that result. Here is some psuedo code that I hope will help!

UpdateContext({currRecord:LookUp(YourListName, **enter your condition here**)});

If(IsBlank(currRecord), Patch(YourListName, Defaults(YourListName), {**your fields here**}), Patch(YourListName, ID = currRecord.ID, {**your fields here**}))

so... if the record doesnt exist add one using the defualts and user input and if it does exist then edit it using the user input values instead.

What is currRecord?

A local context variable. It was created in the line i shared above. 

UpdateContext({currRecord: LookUp(YourListName, **enter your condition here**)});

This variable would just represent whatever object you wanted to find using a lookup. In your case it would be either blank if nothing was found or have an object with the fields of your data source. For example if you were looking for an employee and if they existed you want to change their data and if not they would be added. The varible currItem would hold values like firstname, lastname, jobtitle, startdate, age, department, salary, etc and you could access them by using the dot operator like so: currRecord.firstname or currRecord.department

The reason we need this is bc if its blank we know there was nothing in the data source yet and so we just add a new entry. If the record is returned then we know that we want to alter that record and we can use the records ID field that SharePoint automatically creates for us to tell PowerApps which item to update. That is where the second line comes in.

I updated my code. But now I am getting the incompatible types for comparison. These types can't be compared: Error, Text.

Sorry had a crazy last few days and havent been able to get on here much. Where is the error highlighting?

In the 1st like. Also says Lookup is not a known function.
