Invalid argument type (Record) excpecting a boolean value instead

Hi Guys,

I am using the following formula to look up a list names "Site Inductions" and if in a row of that list the text in Datacardvalue7 and datacardvalue8 match then submit form. I get the above error, there are no errors if I don't use the If.

The location of the formula is the Onselct of a button.

If (LookUp ('Site Inductions', DataCardValue7.Text = ThisRecord.Title && DataCardValue8.Text = ThisRecord.'Company Name'), SubmitForm(Sign_In_Form))

Any help would be appreciated

Hi @jbrines ,

The If() function only accept Booleans, so you need to add an IsEmpty() function to return a Boolean, based on the output of your LookUp():

If (
	!IsEmpty(
		LookUp(
			'Site Inductions',
			DataCardValue7.Text = ThisRecord.Title &&
			DataCardValue8.Text = ThisRecord.'Company Name'
		)
	), 
	SubmitForm(Sign_In_Form)
)

Thanks for this, the formula works except if I type in Name (datacardvaue.text) and Company Name (datacardvalue8) that doesn't exist in "Site Inductions" it still submits the form. I was hoping that it won't submit it.

Can't you set your form Record to a variable? Then you could do this:

If (varRecord.'Title'= DataCardValue1.Text And varRecord.'Company Name' = DataCardValue2.Text, SubmitForm(Form1))

Hi @Anthony_Dob Thanks but I don't see any reference to the Sharepoint list "ISte Inductions" that I want to lookup.

Ahh, I mis understood. Try this:

If (CountRows(Filter ('Site Inductions', DataCardValue1.Text = ThisRecord.Title&& DataCardValue2.Text = ThisRecord.'Company Name'))=0, SubmitForm(Form1))

OK thanks I have entered the following but if the two records don't exist in the list it is still submitting the form, I only want it to submit the form if the two records exist in the list.

The Filter will return all site inductions where the title= your input and the company name = your input. If you want to have it submitted if any record exist with your title input OR if any record exist with your company name input you should change it to:

If (CountRows(Filter ('Site Inductions', DataCardValue7.Text = ThisRecord.Title Or DataCardValue8.Text = ThisRecord.'Company Name'))>0, SubmitForm(Sign_In_Form))

if you want to submit if records exist with the title and company name = your inputs then change it to

If (CountRows(Filter ('Site Inductions', DataCardValue7.Text = ThisRecord.Title And DataCardValue8.Text = ThisRecord.'Company Name'))>0, SubmitForm(Sign_In_Form))

With this codes if any record exists matching the filtering it won't submit

@Anthony_Dob Sorry I am not explaining myself very well (nothing unusual there 🤣).

I have two list "Site Inductions" and "Site Sign In" the person can only Sign In and update the "Site Sign In" list if they exist in the "Site Inductions" List.

I need the Look Up to check that the Title and the Company match on both before allowing the Submit form to work, if they don't exist then I was going to open another Screen.

I hope this makes more sense .

Hi @jbrines ,

Perhaps it's worth considering to replace your Text Inputs in the Form with ComboBox or DropDown controls. That way it is impossible for the user to enter a value that doesn't exist. The decision between on or the other can depend on the number of unique values you have. If it's a big number, the ComboBox provides a better UX, but is a bit trickier to configure.
