Issue with OnSelect for Horizontal Gallery inside Canvas Datacard

Hi all,

So this one has been frustrating to figure out and I can't seem to find any references on this specific issue. Basically, I have taken the canvas from the scrollable screen template and placed it onto my new screen to add a smoother vertical scrolling experience for the user as they look through summarized data. Inside the datacard of this canvas, I have placed a horizontal gallery linked to a sharepoint document library. When the user clicks on the gallery item, it will give ThisItem a border and then display the document in either a PDF viewer, Image control, or Video control (depending on file extension).

The issue that I'm having here is that for some reason, one the gallery is placed inside the datacard, OnSelect doesn't work. The border doesn't display and no documents are loaded into the viewers. However, the moment that I take the gallery out of the canvas' datacard, it works fine. What's even stranger is that previously, I did this similarly but with a vertical gallery and everything worked fine.

Is there something specific that I'm missing with horizontal galleries specifically? Or is there a workaround to allow OnSelect to function correctly?

(Note: Yes, all gallery items are set to Edit and the gallery's Selectable field is set to true)

Hi @CPVain,

I tried to replicate this in a cut-down version, taking the key steps:

  1. Copy a Canvas element to another screen
  2. Place a Horizontal Gallery in the Canvas Data Card
  3. Make a set a behavioural property based on the Gallery.Selected

I used the Color property of the Rectangle in the Gallery to make the selected item turn blue:

If(
    Parent.Selected.ID = ThisItem.ID,
    RGBA(0, 120, 212, 1),
    Color.Green
)

This is working for me fine, whether it is in the Canvas Data Card or not. Maybe you can share some of the property expressions you have written? Maybe start with something simple like the border changing colour?

Edit: I also tried with the Gallery OnSelect:

Set(SelectedItem, ThisItem.ID)

Rectangle Colour:

If(
    SelectedItem = ThisItem.ID,
    RGBA(0, 120, 212, 1),
    Color.Green
)

This is also working for me.

Hi @metsshan ,

So here's a bit of a breakdown of what I have set up:

  • On Screen1 is Gallery 1, Canvas1, PDF Viewer control, Image Viewer control, and Video Viewer control
  • When items on Gallery 1 are selected, varRecord is set
  • Inside Canvas1 is DataCard1
  • Inside DataCard1 is Gallery 2 and 8 containers with labels to display data from varRecord (the size of each container makes it to where users will vertically scroll to see everything in DataCard1)
  • Gallery2 is a horizontal gallery linked to a Sharepoint document library, displaying 2 labels (file name and a metadata field), an overlay, and an image (the image is ThisItem.Thumbnail.Large to provide visual preview of each item)
    • Gallery2 Items field = Filter('Sharepoint Document Library','Case Name' = varRecord.Name&"/"varRecord.ID)
    • Gallery2 Default field = {}
    • Onselect field for Gallery2, the 2 labels, overlay, and image = Set(varDocView, ThisItem.ID)
  • When an item on Gallery2 is selected, the following should display (depending on file type):
    • Image Viewer - Image = Gallery2.Selected.Thumbnail.Large (or varDocView.Thumbnail.Large), Visible = If(PDFViewer1.Visible=true || VideoViewer1.Visible = true,false,true), BorderThickness = If(varDocView = ThisItem.ID,3,0)
    • Video Viewer - Media = If(Self.Visible = true, Gallery2.Selected.Link,false) (or varDocView.Link), Visible = With({fileextension: Last(Split(Gallery2.Selected.'{FilenameWithExtension}',".")).Result}, If(fileextension = "mp4",true,false))
    • The PDF Viewer is set to display any actual document type (too bulky to post here, but shouldn't be related).

Essentially what I'm running into is when Gallery2 is inside Canvas1, none of this works minus the gallery's item labels (thumbnail image, 2 labels, and overlay). When Gallery2 is outside of Canvas1, everything works correctly. I'm struggling to find where the disconnect is. What's even stranger is that I have this same set up on another screen, but the only difference is that the Gallery inside the datacard is a vertical gallery vs this one being a horizontal gallery.
