Keep a toggle open

Hello,

I have 4 toggle switches in my form (please see attached screenshot). They all default to "No" / false unless they need to be flipped on to record a project that has been placed on hold, cancelled, etc. The reason I did it this way is that I set the date pickers to default to today's date versus Dec 31, 2001 and didn't want to give people the mistaken impression that their project had been put on hold, cancelled, etc. "today".

So here is what I could use help with. If I toggle a switch to "Yes" / true and fill in the information (e.g. Negotiated By and Negotiated Date), I want the toggle switch to stay on "Yes" / true and keep showing the fields. Right now, the Default setting for the toggle switch control is Parent.Default so it keeps going back to the "Off" setting when I save the form (the Negotiated By, Negotiation Date and other fields retain their value when changed). What If statement can I enter to keep the toggle on if it needs to be activated and what property do I apply it to? Would it go in OnCheck? I'm kind of hoping so since I also see an OnUnCheck property which would be helpful for undoing an On Hold "true" setting when the hold is lifted. I think that is the only 1 of the 4 that would be undone at some point.

Here are the formulas I am using for the Negotiation controls, the rest follow the same pattern.

Form OnSuccess property:

Negotiated By

Set(
varNegBy,
Self.LastSubmit.'Negotiated By'
);
Set(
varNegDate,
Self.LastSubmit.'Negotiated Date'
);

Negotiated By DefaultSelectedItems property:

If(!IsBlank(varNegBy),varNegBy,ThisItem.'Negotiated By')

Negotiated Date DefaultDate property:

If(!IsBlank(varNegDate),varNegDate,ThisItem.'Negotiated Date')

The Visible property of the Negotiated By and Negotiated Date datacards is set respectively to:

toggleNegotiate.Value

Thanks in advance for your help,

Teresa

Hi Warren,

Sorry for the confusion. If you look at my post from about 7 hours ago maybe it will help as it provides the background on how I put the cascading dropdowns together. The last Items property formula I provided is the one for the Percent Complete dropdown, not the Project Status dropdown. I don't know how to combine the formula you gave me with that Items property if indeed that is even the right place to insert it. My end goal is to have the Percent Complete drop down items show as 25%, 50%, etc. Everything else is working great.

Thank you,

Teresa

@tagustin2020 ,

Hi Theresa,

If you do that (you would simply hard code it and replace the numbers with the percentage format you wanted), then the content of the text field you are filtering it on would have to be the same format to match in the filter.

There might be some “text gymnastics” you could use stripping off the end character, turning it into a number, dividing it by 100 and then back into text to match, but this would not be delegable and to be honest not practicable.

I will be offline shortly, so will pick up any response later.

Hi Warren,

So are you saying that if we change the appearance of the dropdown values to be 25%, 50%, etc. by changing the Items property formula that they will also be written back to SharePoint via the text input field in that same format and cause issues? I want the values to show up in my gallery label as 25%, 50%, etc. as well so I'm not completely sure how that will throw a monkey wrench in things.

Currently I am converting the numbers to percentages in the Gallery with the following Text property formula ThisItem.'Percentage Complete'*100 & "%". Maybe that formula wouldn't even be necessary if the values were already being recorded to SharePoint as percentages?

Originally, I was hoping I could make the Percent Complete a number type as that would make it easy to format it as a percentage at the data source, but Power Apps wouldn't let me do a cascading dropdown where the Status was single line of text and Percent Complete was a number which is why I converted the Percent Complete column to a single line of text.

I hope that background info helps you help me. Let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks,

Teresa

@tagustin2020 ,

Hi Teresa,

You have a text field in your list and if you have text in your dropdown and have the Update of the card set at

YourDropDownName.Selected.Value

then it will simply write that back to the list. If you have the Default of the DropDown (I assume it is a DropDown, not a ComboBox) set to

{Value:ThisItem.'Percent Complete')

 It will show what you have selected in the same format as you have hard-coded.

The only issue then is if you want to use this for some sort of calculation as it is text and would have to have the % stripped off and converted to numeric.

Value(
   Left(
      'Percent Complete',
      Len(
         'Percent Complete'
      )-1
   )
)

Hi Warren,

Thank you for your help. You were right. All I had to do was hard-code/manually type in 25%, 50%, etc. into my Percentage Complete single line of text column. I didn't have to do anything fancy with my gallery formula. The Text property of the label is

ThisItem.'Percentage Complete'. I'm sorry I made this harder than it had to be. I will save your advice for if I have a more complicated situation that requires some extra finesse.

Have a nice weekend,

Teresa

@WarrenBelz

Hi Warren,

This was a long journey that ended up in a different place than where it started. Dropdown menus ended up being much easier than toggles to work with and my final cascading dropdown solution that includes the ability to default to certain percentages (e.g. Completed = 100%) as well as show/hide fields based on the selected status, ended up being the most comprehensive solution for what I was trying to achieve. I hope you don't mind me sharing this PDF doc with the Community and marking it as the solution. I will kudo all of the tips you gave me along the way that will also be helpful to users. Hopefully, we can save other members of the Community some time with these tips.

Thanks again for all of your help and support!

Teresa

@tagustin2020 ,

Thanks Terese,

I am glad you have sorted this out - there are many ways of solving most issues - you just have to find the one that suits your model.
