License Strategy / Service User Account / Canvas App

Hi Community

We would like to use a canvas app without premium connectors on a small scale for max. 25 end users. The idea is to run the app itself via a service user account (premium licenses) and the end users should then be able to consume the app with their E3 license. Administration, governance and maintenance will be held by IT.

The app itself should perhaps be slightly adapted in the future. Basically, the app should only be used a few times a day by a few end users.

Does this approach make sense or are there still points that need to be considered?

Hey @bob_taylor_pp 

Normally itbis against the licencing guide to let one service account do all the premium stuff and endnusers use the normal license. What premium features do you need to implement?! Inwont recomment doing it this way.

If you're not using any premium connectors or features you don't need the premium license on the service account. 

As you can see in the image below your licenses enables your users to use power apps without additional licensing, as long as you don't use Premium features

from your post, I understand that you’re using a service account with a premium license. However, it’s important to remember that if you’re using a premium connector within the application, then all the end users also need to have a premium license for Power Apps. You can run the flow with a service account, but if you’re using premium connectors within the context of an app, then all the end users also need to have either a Power Apps per user or per app license. In the case of non-premium connectors, an E3 license should suffice for your needs.”

Many thanks for the quick feedback. Mainly the service user account with the premium licenses will be used to develop more power apps in the future.
Does this service user account then also need an E3 license even if we will not use premium connectors or are there other possibilities.
The aim is to keep the costs as low as possible.

If it's only to develop other apps you can use the Developer plan: Power Apps Developer Plan | Microsoft Power Platform

It's free and you can use all connectors inside your Dev environment.

The service account needs a licence where power apps is included in order to be able to develop apps even thise without premium features

Hi @bob_taylor_pppp Its good to have premium license for share account as there could be more flow runs associated with it and more apps built however with e3 or e5 you should be able to build the application without using premium connector
