Listview with checkbox

Hello,

wondering if you can help, i would like to create a listbox with a checkbox next to each item, when the checkbox is 'ticked' it updates the column in the SharePoint list with a tick,

basically, it with list names pulled from an existing list, then if people are present, but it would save to the sharepoint column name when the box has been selected, but stay on the same page ready for the next entry. Is this possible, if there is another way that would be great? any code would be great, im super new to powerapps, looking for answer monday or tuesday or sooner

checking people in from a list, a building evacuation list.

Thank you so much

Hi @AndyPowerAppNew, this is for sure possible in Power Apps.

To start with you will need a SharePoint List with a Yes/No column, this column will be linked to the checkbox.

You can start your canvas app from blank or use the 'Start from data (SharePoint)' option. The latter will generate 3 screens for you, one being a item list screen (see documentation link 3 at the end). Looking at your requirements, this might actually be a good option to start with.

The list overview can be achieved by using a Gallery Power Apps control.
A very basic example of your case would be:

LaurensM_0-1671318327442.png

This gallery will contain a label for the name and a checkbox for the yes/no field.
The Checkbox will have the following functionality:

(1) OnCheck

Patch(ListName, ThisItem, {YesNoColumn: true})

(2) OnUnCheck of the checkbox

Patch(LastName, ThisItem, {YesNoColumn: false})

(3) Default property of the checkbox

ThisItem.YesNoColumn

Since you mention you are very new to Power Apps, I will link some additional documentation:

  1. How to add data sources to Power Apps (your SP List)
  2. Working with galleries - tutorial
  3. Create an app from a SharePoint List - tutorial

I hope this helps!

If this solves your question, would you be so kind as to accept it as a solution.

@AndyPowerAppNew, ok nice work!

That field needs to remain blank (blank means false / no), otherwise you will patch the change to the SP List.

You could add an icon and drag it under the checkbox but UI-wise, I would not recommend this (will confuse the user).

What I could suggest is changing the CheckBoxBorderColor to something like this:

//Green box border if true, else red
If(Self.Value,Green, Red)

Since the initial problem is solved, would it be possible to select one of my first comments (with the code) and accept it as a solution.
Thanks!

Thank you, I tried but can’t get it to work , can you supply the code needed ? I added the galley and got the data from the list but only the top item is clickable , how do I make the different rows clickable with a checkbox , then the checkbox value saved in the share point list? Thanks

Hi @AndyPowerAppNew when you add a checkbox in the gallery, all items should contain the checkbox.

However, only the first item is 'editable'/clickable in the editor. The code you put in the first checkbox, will be copied to the checkboxes of the other items. Should you open the app in play mode, you will see that the user can select all items.

The code supplied in the first comment will make sure that the correct item gets updated in the SharePoint List (via 'ThisItem'). When a user clicks on the checkbox, Power Apps will first check what item was clicked and then update the SP List accordingly.
Since you mentioned only the first Item is clickable, I want to quickly make sure the checkbox is in the gallery and not outside:

Your gallery checkbox tree view should look like this:

LaurensM_0-1671357588325.png

The checkbox is a subitem of the gallery.

Your checkbox should not look like this:

LaurensM_1-1671357634742.png

Here the checkbox is outside the gallery and not all items will contain the checkbox.

You can add a control as a subitem of the gallery by clicking on the gallery, selecting the pencil and adding the control:

I hope this helps!

Thank you , @LaurensM I will try this , is there is working example you can write me

Hi @AndyPowerAppNew what steps would you like me to explain more in depth?

To give an overview of the needed steps in chronological order:

  1. Add a Gallery to your screen
  2. Add the checkbox to your gallery (make sure it is in the gallery, not outside - see steps second comment)
  3. Connect your SharePoint List & use it in the Items property of the gallery
  4. Select the checkbox of the first item and add the code in the OnCheck, OnUnCheck & Default properties (See code first comment)
    • You will have to change 'ListName' to the name of your SP List (list name of the gallery Items property)
    • You will have to change 'YesNoColumn' to the name of the SP Yes/No column

(Disregard, previous comment was posted twice)

Hi @LaurensM , I will try this , see how I get one , but would I need a yes/no column in a SP list , basically the powerapps would be used to see if people are present , then be ticked off, but the list of people already exist in a sharepoint list , I’m just adding the yes/no column - this this how yours would work?

sorry about all questions

@AndyPowerAppNew, no worries!

Indeed, with my setup, you will need to add a yes/no column to your existing list. Once checked within the app, that record in SharePoint will contain a check mark in the Yes/No column:

Hello @LaurensM , I am just looking at this now, but how to i add the checkout inside the gallery? can i move it? Thanks
