Hello, Awesome People
Can someone please explain how I should be trying to design this app functionality...
I'm attempting to build a feature whereby a user can recall a 'Report' that has been partially completed and the values from the unique record they choose in the gallery will repopulate back into the combo boxes (and text boxes) they used to input them so they can "resume" completing the form. This is being done from another screen.
I have the values storing and saving locally, and they are pulling into the gallery fine, I just can't wrap my head around the syntax to "repopulate" those values when the user selects the edit icon in the parent gallery... I am really hoping this is possible to achieve (without using forms) as my app has to use offline local storage before patching back to the Sharepoint list.
I was attempting this by writing back to the DefaultSelectedItems property but am not getting anywhere with that... I have scoured the forum and can't find a solution that matches this situation...
Thank you in advance for any help you can give!

Hi @LeeB_CDN ,
On the edit icon if the main gallery add ClearCollecr(ColRecord, ThisItem). On the other screen for the combobox, set the items property of the combobox to be ColRecord.[Your desired column name]. After that on the DefaultSelectedItems you put the same thing - ColRecord.[Your desired column name]. Make sure that the DisplayFileds and SearchFields properties of your combobox is set to the same column name.
Let me know if this helps 🙂
Yes, of course CNT
First shot is the input screen where the user selects data from the offline collection in the comboboxes:
Then they select a button called "Next" that stores the data to a new collection called colUnsavedRecords which looks like this:
And finally I display this record in a gallery on a new screen where the user can delete or continue to edit the form:
The issue is trying to set the DefaultSelectedItems property of the Report Setup screen comboboxes from the "edit" button in the Reports Gallery to "reload" the record values from colUnsavedRecords from whichever report is selected in the gallery (ThisItem ?).
So far all I've been able to do successfully is clear the combobox, * 🤦♂️* here is the code in the Gallery edit Icon:
Select(Parent);
LoadData(colUnsavedRecords, "localUnsavedRecords", false);
Reset(ComboCustomer);
UpdateContext({varCustomerLoad:ThisItem.Customer});
Navigate(ReportSetup);
I was also trying to set a contextual variable for the current item, but I don't think that is required, in researching the issue I think I need to assign a global table variable to the ComboBox 'DefaultSelectedItems' property and then populate that variable in the code above?
Thank you so much in advance, I'm still struggling with the logic and syntax in powerapps...
Hi @LeeB_CDN ,

The items property in the combobox is already set as:
Sort(colLoadItems, Customer, Ascending)
It doesn't like me trying to add :
Sort(colLoadItems, Customer, Ascending);
ColRecord.Customer
Any suggestions? I believe what you are trying to achieve with this is, adding the currently selected record to a new collection call colRecord, so that I can reference that from the edit button?
Thanks so much for your help with this...
Hi @LeeB_CDN ,
The Items property and the DefaultSelectedItems should be using the same source in order for this to work.
The items propery in your case is proper.
For the defaultselecteditems, first change the "ClearCollecr(ColRecord, ThisItem)" to "Set(VarRecord,ThisItem)" - this will create a record variable.
After that in your defaultselecteditems put something like this:
Filter(
colLoadItems,
[YourColumnName] = VarRecord.[YourColumnName]
).Value
This way every time you select a different value from your main gallery, the combobox will be filled with that value, but if you expand the combobox, you will still see all values.
Let me know if this helps 🙂
Hello! Apologies, I was in the field all day and am just getting back to this...
Filter(
colLoadItems,Customer = varCustRecord.Customer
).Value
This throws an error saying .Value isn't valid. "This identifier isn't recognized"
any thoughts?
Hi @LeeB_CDN ,
This is strange. Please remove the .value at the end and let me know if it works for you now.
Hi @PTBBSolutions !
No, that removing it does not reload the record as desired...
I had some success with your previous solution where I was storing .ThisItem in a new collection called colRecord ... But I had to move the colRecord.Customer to the defaultselecteditems.
That seems to work as desired! However I have another issue now... If I type a custom entry into the combobox, it does not store in the collection... How can I make it store that manually entered value? It lets me type it in, however doesn't seem to acknowledge it do I need to make a Patch to the collection 'OnChange' perhaps?
Thanks again!!!
I don't understand in which collection you waant it to be stored. Can you please further explain.
