The string I have for: "Apple-1,Appl2,Apple-3,Apple_4,Apple-5". It needs to be split with ",". Each element format should be like "Apple-N".
For example:
Correct Syntax: Apple-1, Apple-2, Apple-3, Apple-4, Appl-5
Incorrect for above string: Apple2, Appl_4
Wonder how to loop through the string and notify user need to correct wrong format element. Then, if all correct then, put it all in a collection?
Thanks!

.MSAPP file also attached to this post. Please see previous reply for instructions how to use it.
First. here is screenshot of it working correctly.
Next, here are the key formulas and where to put them:
OnVisible of Screen1:
Reset(InputToValidate);
ClearCollect(_MAINCOLLECTION,{});
Clear(_MAINCOLLECTION);
Set(_MainValue,"");
ClearCollect(_MainSplitValueColl,{});
Set(_shouldValidate,false);
Set(_shouldStartValidate,false);
Set(_DefaultStartValue,"Apple-1,Appl2,Apple-3,Apple_4,Apple-5");
OnSelect of ValidateButton
Clear(_MAINCOLLECTION);
Set(_MainValue,"");
Set(_MainValue,InputToValidate.Text);
Clear(_MainSplitValueColl);
Collect(_MainSplitValueColl,Split(_MainValue,Char(44)));
ClearCollect(
_MAINCOLLECTION
,
ForAll
(
_MainSplitValueColl
,
If(IsMatch(ThisRecord.Result,"^[^-]+?[-]{1}\d+?$")
,
ThisRecord.Result
,
Blank()
)
)
);
If(CountA(_MainSplitValueColl) <> CountA(_MAINCOLLECTION)
,
Set(_shouldValidate,false)
,
Set(_shouldValidate,true);
);
Set(_shouldStartValidate,true);
Those two above are the only essentials ones. All others are for illustration purposes only to help you. For that, in the attached msapp you can find all these other miscellaneous formulas.
Also in case it helps for IsMatch explanation RegEx:
"^[^-]+?[-]{1}\d+?$"
^ at the beginning of the string
[^-] any non dash character
[^-]+? any non dash character one or more non-greedy look
[-]{1} exactly one dash
[^-]+?[-]{1} any non dash character one or more non-greedy look then followed by exactly one dash
\d+? any one or more digits non-greedy look
[^-]+?[-]{1}\d+any non dash character one or more non-greedy look then followed by exactly one dash then followed by any one or more digits non-greedy look
$ at the end of the string
In total, ^[^-]+?[-]{1}\d+?$ means starting from the beginning of the string of the element, any non dash character one or more non-greedy look then followed by exactly one dash then followed by any one or more digits non-greedy look then the end of the string of the element.
For explanation of any other things you can check it yourself in the .msapp file and play with it. In case there is still something you want explanation about even after checking on this. you can feel free to reply here.
See if this above helps @usaman45 .
Yes, if you want to show the wrong strings, in this case you can give a try with this new msapp version attached then, App991-v3.msapp:
As you can see above, it is now showing which strings are in the wrong format after pressing the Validate button in the app.
In this one the approach is changed a little bit in this version since it is for showing the wrong strings. Also, in case you wanted to know how to do it, in the Wrong String message, now it removes the very last comma of the string with specific way as well (this was done for that specific string only, the Wrong String message one, in this example). Here are the key formulas again:
Screen1 OnVisible:
Reset(InputToValidate);
ClearCollect(_MAINCOLLECTION,{});
Clear(_MAINCOLLECTION);
ClearCollect(_WRONGCOLLECTION,{});
Clear(_WRONGCOLLECTION);
Set(_MainValue,"");
ClearCollect(_MainSplitValueColl,{});
Set(_shouldValidate,false);
Set(_shouldStartValidate,false);
Set(_DefaultStartValue,"Apple-1,Appl2,Apple-3,Apple_4,Apple-5");
Set(_WrongString,"");
ValidateButton OnSelect:
Clear(_MAINCOLLECTION);
Clear(_WRONGCOLLECTION);
Set(_WrongString,"");
Set(_MainValue,"");
Set(_MainValue,InputToValidate.Text);
Clear(_MainSplitValueColl);
Collect(_MainSplitValueColl,Split(_MainValue,Char(44)));
ForAll
(
_MainSplitValueColl
,
If(IsMatch(ThisRecord.Result,"^[^-]+?[-]{1}\d+?$")
,
Collect(_MAINCOLLECTION,ThisRecord.Result)
,
Collect(_WRONGCOLLECTION,ThisRecord.Result)
)
);
If(CountA(_WRONGCOLLECTION) > 0
,
Set(_shouldValidate,false);
Set(_WrongString,"Wrong Format for these Elements: " & Char(13) & Concat(_WRONGCOLLECTION, Value & ","));
Set(_WrongString,If(Right(_WrongString,1)=",",Left(_WrongString, Len(_WrongString)-1),_WrongString))
,
Set(_shouldValidate,true);
);
Set(_shouldStartValidate,true);
See if this helps as well.
Take a look at the pattern matching function: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-ismatch.
I think it will help you with determining if the information is in the right format.
Then to combine the information into a single string you can use Concatenate: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-concatenate
What you are asking is quite specific.
We are checking into specific solution for you and will let you know shortly.
First check if the answer from @LRVinNC helps If it is good enough and you figure it out, please mark it accepted.
If not, please check within 15-45 minutes of this writing and we might post a complete solution for you with specific details and explanations.
@usaman45
Have specific starting point, but it is currently still not working right, but in case it helps here is the starting point, may be almost finished. If we have some more extra time we might come and check it again and finish it. If not, hopefully @LRVinNC or another user on this forum can kindly please check on it for you. Here is a specific starting point:
Screen1 Onvisible:
ClearCollect(_MAINCOLLECTION,{});
Clear(_MAINCOLLECTION);
Set(_MainValue,"");
ClearCollect(_MainSplitValueColl,{});
Set(_shouldValidate,false);
Set(_shouldStartValidate,false);
Set(_DefaultStartValue,"Apple-1,Appl2,Apple-3,Apple_4,Apple-5");
Button OnSelect
Clear(_MAINCOLLECTION);
Set(_MainValue,"");
Set(_MainValue,InputToValidate.Text);
Clear(_MainSplitValueColl);
ClearCollect(_MainSplitValueColl,Split(_MainValue,","));
ForAll(_MainSplitValueColl,
If(IsMatch(ThisRecord.Result,"^^[-]+?-\n+$")
,
Collect(_MAINCOLLECTION,ThisRecord.Result)
,
Collect(_MAINCOLLECTION,Blank())
)
);
If(CountA(_MainSplitValueColl) <> CountA(_MAINCOLLECTION)
,
Set(_shouldValidate,false)
,
Set(_shouldValidate,true);
);
Set(_shouldStartValidate,true);
ResultToDisplay Default
Concat(_MAINCOLLECTION, "," & Value)
OKLabel Visible
_shouldValidate && _shouldStartValidate
WrongLabel Visible
!_shouldValidate && _shouldStartValidate
Also see msapp file attached. This way you can start from this app and try and finish it by yourself as well as the starting point. To import this app, download the attached msapp to local computer, and then: go to https://us.create.powerapps.com/studio/ Click Open then click Browse then navigate to msapp file from windows explorer when prompted. Then you will get to use this specific app directly as starting point.
Hope this helps as starting point.
If we have time we may check it closer. Someone else on this forum, also please feel free to go from this point if you want and finish it.
We think now we got it to work correctly. We'll post in a few minutes the solution we have for you.
