Hi All,

I am building an app that has an excel data source. The app will reference the names of people in the data source and have a drop down box in the app where the user will select the number of entries.

I want to have a button that I click that then randomly chooses a winner. I understand the Shuffle function is one way to achieve this. However I am stuck at working out how to built the data source such that  a persons entries are added to a variable or data source somewhere.

Eg Person A - 4, Person B - 1, Person C - 2

This would mean there are 7 entries. If I can add this to a collection of some sort, I can then use the Shuffle function to randomly sort them and I can select the top entry.

Assuming your Excel table is named "myTable" with two columns, called "Person" and "Entries", try some code that looks like this to create a collection with a record for each entry by each person:

Clear(colEntryList);
ForAll(myTable As aRecord,
    ForAll(Sequence(aRecord.Entries),
        Collect(colEntryList,
            {Value: aRecord.Person}
        )
    )
)

 then you can use Shuffle as you described to pull a random entry out for the winner.

Thanks Bryan, I have taken your code and I think I am really close. I have the following issue which I will try and explain:

- I don't have an "Entries" column on the data source, rather I just have the "Person", the Entries are created from a Slider I have in inserted in the Gallery.

- The problem is the collection that I am creating is using the slider value from the first row in the data source, not the actual value that is selected in the app. In other words, the slider value, while operating independently on the app, when used in the code, is only selecting the slider value of the first row in the collection that I have created.

Have I explained the issue well enough?

I 'think' I understand what you're doing, and offer this suggestion: you can replace myTable in the code above with Gallery1.AllItems. This is a direct reference to the items shown in the gallery in a table format. From that, you should be able to reference the slider's value rather than the Entries column I imagined from your Excel table.

Thank you Bryan, your advice worked a treat! My Sequence was changed as follows: Sequence(aRecord.Slider1.Value)...
