Model Driven Form - New Child Record & How to relate to Parent

Scenario is as follows. I have two tables, Header and Detail with a 1:N relationship setup from Header to Detail. There is mapping setup to copy certain fields from the Header to the Detail table.

I have a form (Model Driven) for the Header table which has a sub grid which is populated by Detail records. I can click new Detail record on this sub grid and the Detail main form opens and all the related fields from Header come through OK. Once the first record is saved, if the user then clicks on the New record from the top of the Detail form a new record is created but with none of the related Header data. I understand that to get the Header data mapping to a new Detail record then the new Detail record must be created from the Headers form so I understand why the mapping is not working. My question is - what is considered the best practice method to achieve the Header data being available for new Detail records created from the Detail main form (via New button) that was opened initially via a link on the related Header record form?

Hi @AWM 

Skipping the fact that the best practice is to use what comes out of the box and perhaps hide the button again so that the user is forced to do it from the Subgrid, I indicate an alternative

You can use a popup window, here at ease (you can use html and javascript or Canvas Apps), where the user can select the header record they need to create the detail.

At this point something you should keep in mind is that you must create the detail record after selecting the header record.

To create it you can use Javascript or Power Automate

Hi @AWM 

You must use the XRM Toolbox tool and there use the Ribbons Workbech that allows you to hide the buttons

Important you must create a solution where you only have to incorporate the table without any component
