Modern Controls Form NOT looking up users (Email addresses or Names)

I have a modern App using all modern controls, the new Modern Form is connected to a SharePoint list with 3 columns for Users showing their Email Address & Name. The fields in the form will not search users when creating a NEW FORM and will not search users to edit existing entries.

Older forms which do not look any where as modern (good) work 100% fine, but the new forms do not work.

I have edited to show Fields - Email, but this makes little difference.

The field is shown in non edit mode in the attached image, it fails to work in either view or edit state.

Has anyone come across this issue/bug, if not, i will log it with Microsoft. Thanks.

I've found that the modern combo box requires a delegated query to pull the whole dataset, even using Dataverse. However, you cannot self-reference for the query by using the "Search Text" because when you select an item from the list, the search text disappears, which causes your options and then your selected item to disappear too.

The only workaround I have found is to add a text input box into the datacard with the combo box, turn the search function off for the combo box and then reference the text input for the delegating query.

For example: Search('Microsoft Entra IDs',TextInputCanvas1.Value,"displayname")

Thanks for this information.I was also facing this issue when using Modern form controls.By following your comments now I can able to see the Displayname or Email. However as you mentioned ,I am getting limited number of results.Also,if I am trying to add mutiple fields like Displayname, Email still I can see only one in the combobox. Please let me know if you found any solution on this.

Many thanks in advance!!

Hi

Microsoft get back to me

Their Comment is

Trust this mail meets you well.

Following up on the request, I would first like to thank you for the video which was very helpful.

As mentioned earlier, the modern control form is still in preview and does not allow search and this has been identified for a fix which I don't have an expected time of arrival.

Thank you for understanding.

So for now it will not work until they fix it as they don't have expected time of arrival

Hi

I am using a method similar to yours.

Hello there! I wanted to let you know that I've been using a method similar to yours. Specifically, I've been using a modern dropdown choice to search for staff names instead of the classic dropdown. Alternatively, I use the classic form and copy/paste one of the data value dropdowns into one of the modern form dropdowns and replace it. Then I edit it to match the closer template on the modern form. The only issue I've encountered is that the chevron is too big, and I haven't been able to resize it or the icon.

Overall, I can search all 500 employees on this.

@stevenpetersmicould you please share which colors, font, etc. you have applied to your classic combo box to match the modern template?

In my case, I get the modern combo box to show search results, but it's sluggish and buggy and selecting users is difficult.

Text is Segoe UI  10.5, and font-weight is 10.5

This is what I implemented on my PowerApps

It's a huge disappointment that this isn't working as it should, even in preview. This functionality alone is keeping me from using and recommending the new form control. Even outside the form context, when using the Office 365 Users connection, the ComboBox has the same issue when searching for people/groups in a large org, but the old one handles it without hesitation.

I found a fix for this issue. Well a fix for me.

My issue was when I searched for something in SharePoint the items will appear but when I click on it, it just disappears.

I was using a formula that works perfectly fine for the classic but not for Modern.

Essentially all I had to do was remove the code where I am referencing the Search String.

I just need to add the SharePoint list column I wanted to populate with the combobox and then the search feature just works automatically.

I must say the feel of it isn't great as you need to click away from the combobox after selecting it. But it works.

Filter(
    Distinct(<SP_LIST>, <ColumnName>),Value
)

Old code was something like this

If (!IsBlank(cmb_UserID.SearchText),

    Distinct(Filter(<SP_LIST>, StartsWith(<COLUMNNAME>, cmb_UserID.SearchText)), UserPrincipalName),

    Filter(

        Distinct(E<SP_LIST>, <COLUMNNAME>),Value

        )

)
