Multi-select items in listbox

can somebody please help me how can i make it to work in powerapps.  data source is a spreadsheet saved on onedrive account.

1.  i created a listbox with several items on it but when i ran it, i can do multi-select but only the last value will be saved on the spreadsheet column for that box.  i was hoping its going to be multi-values separated by a comma or something.

2.  i have "others" as an option on that list and i want to be able to type any character on a text box within the same datacard that will be visible once i press others and still be saved on the same column on the spreadsheet

appreciate all the help!

Hi @peterstylias ,

Based on the formula you provided, I think there is something wrong with your formula.

Please set the Update property of the Data card which contains the ComboBox in your Edit form to following:

If(
   "Other" in ComboBox1.SelectedItems.ColumnName, // ColumnName represents the column you used as Displayed value within the ComboBox
   TextInputBox1.Text,
   Concat(ComboBox1.SelectedItems, ColumnName & ";")
)

Set the Visible property of the Text Box under the same data card to following:

If(
   "Other" in ComboBox1.SelectedItems.ColumnName,
   true,
   false
)

Set the DefaultSelectedItems property of the ComboBox to following:

ForAll(
       Split(
             ThisItem.ExcelColumn, // ExcelColumn represents the column in your Excel table to store the selected options
             ";"
       ), // do not miss close ')' symbol here
       {
         ColumnName: Result // ColumnName represents the column used as Display value in your ComboBox
       }
)

Pleae take a try with above solution, then check if the issue is solved.

@peterstylias

1) Use a Combobox and make sure Allow Multiple Selection is on in the Properties.

2) Set the visible property on the Text input to:

"Other" in Combobox1.SelectedItems.Column1

Where Combobox1 is the name of the combobox control on your app and Column1 is the name of the column that the combobox is referencing in your data source.

Set the OnChange property of your Text Input box to:

Patch(DataSource, ThisItem, {Column2: TextInput1})

Where Column2 is where you want to write the text to and TextInput1 is the Text Input control on your data card.

Here is how you get comma separated values for all selected text:

Concat(ListBox1.SelectedItemsText,YourSelectedItemName,", ")

@Anonymous , im kinda lost on the YourSelectedName part.

@peterstylias

YourSelectedName is just a placeholder for the result you want to use in your app. Whatever the name of the data values in your listbox goes there. Copy that formula and paste it into a textbox, remove YourSelectedName, and it should be a little more clear.

@SeanHenderson , what would be the update value of the combo box?

Im entering this data Combobox1.SelectedItems.Column1 where column1 is the name of the column where i want the data to be put on and it is giving me an error.

for your information, "other" is one of the options on the combo box/list box and i just want the text input to appear once this is selected.

also, once i edit the record, i would want it to still remember the value/values of that record.  what function should i put on the default?

I have a SharePoint List called TestList.

In it is an option set column called Test

Annotation 2019-12-11 151900.png

One of the options in the Test column that you can select is "Test B"

In your app, you have an option set column and one of the options you can select is called "other"

In my app, I have a gallery called Gallery1 with TestList as the data source. I have a form with TestList as the data source and Gallery1.Selected as the items property.

One data card on the form is attached to the combobox which is linked to the Test column in my data source.

Another data card on the form is attached to text input I want to appear when "Test B" is selected in my combobox. For the visible property of this data card, I have:

"Test B" in ComboBox1.SelectedItems.Test

 as seen here:

Annotation 2019-12-11 153010.png

The card for entering "other" will only appear (on my form) if "Test B" is selected in the combobox. For your form, you will substitute "Test B" for "Other" (make sure to get the capitalization right), Combobox1 for the name of the combo box control on your app and Test for the name of the column in your data source that contains the option set.

Doing it this way, with forms and data cards, you won't need to Patch a value. The card will just appear if you select other and if you fill in that data card, it will save it to the record you are on.

Hi @peterstylias ,

Could you please share a screenshot about your app's configuration?

Do you want to select multiple values from the List Box, then concatenate them into a string separated by a comma, then save it back to your Excel table?

Further, do you also want the Text Box to show up when the "Others" option is selected in the List Box?

I have made a test on my side, please consider take a try with the following workaround:

Set the Update property of the Data card which contains the List box in your Edit form to following:

If(
   "Others" in ListBox1.SelectedItems.Value,
   TextInputBox1.Text,
   Concat(ListBox1.SelectedItems, Value & ";")
)

Set the Visible property of the Text Box under the same data card to following:

If(
   "Others" in ListBox1.SelectedItems.Value,
   true,
   false
)

Please consider take a try with above solution, then check if the issue is solved.

@v-xida-msft, yes, that is what i want.  "Other" is a part of that list box and when selected, i need a textbox to appear so the user can type any value that they want and it goes to the same column on the spreadsheet.  Furthermore, i need the listbox/combo to remember those values selected on that record - meaning if i press edit, those values remain highlighted unless i change my selection and submit.

Hi @peterstylias ,

Do you also want these stored seletions for a record to be highlighted within the ListBox or ComboBox when you edit an record?

Based on the needs that you mentioned, I think the ListBox could not achieve your needs, instead, please use ComboBox control to achieve your needs.

I have made a test on my side, please consider take a try with the following workaround:

Set the Update property of the Data card which contains the ComboBox in your Edit form to following:

If(
   "Other" in ComboBox1.SelectedItems.Value,
   TextInputBox1.Text,
   Concat(ComboBox1.SelectedItems, Value & ";")
)

Set the Visible property of the Text Box under the same data card to following:

If(
   "Other" in ComboBox1.SelectedItems.Value,
   true,
   false
)

Set the DefaultSelectedItems property of the ComboBox to following:

ForAll(
       Split(ThisItem.ColumnName, ";"), // ColumnName represents the column in your Excel table to store the selected options
       {
         Value: Result
       }
)

Please consider take a try with above solution, then check if the issue is solved.
