Navigate to different screens based on text in DataCardValue_1

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new to Power Apps and I need help to set up a button that opens up relevant screens based on a text in a DataCard.

I'm in the very early stages of setting up an app for one of our clients where they can review CVs and decide if they want to interview the candidates or not.

Set up a form that pulls in data from SharePoint lists and my goal is that when someone clicks on the "Candidates" button, it will take them to the relavant job's Candidates.

I have basic understanding on OnSelect, If, Navigate, etc. and spent hours searching in forums and can't get this working.

I know that it should be something like this:

If(
    ThisItem.Value = Lawyer,
    Navigate('Lawyer Candidates'),
    ThisItem.Value = Cleaner,
    Navigate('Cleaner Candidates'),
    ThisItem.Value = Cleaner,
    Navigate('Cleaner Candidates'),
)

Can someone please advise how to set this up?

Hi @GT81IRS,

Sorry, my bad, I thought you were using the DataCard instead of the DataCardValue.

In this case, you can use .Text.

Cheers,

Gonçalo Melo

@goncalomelo8 , you are a legend mate, it works like a dream...

So just to help others as well, this is what I needed:

Switch(
    DataCardValue1.Text,
    "Lawyer",
    Navigate('Lawyer Candidates'),
    "Cleaner",
    Navigate('Cleaner Candidates'),
    "Carpenter",
    Navigate('Carpernter Candidates'),
    Notify("No candidate screen found")
)

@Amik thanks for your help too, really appreaciate your input to get on top of this.

@GT81IRS - try Switch:

Switch(
    DataCardValue_1.Selected.Value,
    "Lawyer",
    Navigate(
        'Lawyer Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None
    ),
    "Cleaner",
    Navigate(
        'Cleaner Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None
    ),
    "Accountant",
    Navigate(
        'Accountant Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None
    ),
    "Administrator",
    Navigate(
        'Administrator Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None
    )
)

Hi,

No, it's not working, apparently Selected.Value is not recognised.

Amended what you suggested so it holds the relevant data from the test app (got only 3 positions as test) , all but still running into the same error message.

Switch(
    DataCardValue1. Selected.Value,
    Lawyer,
    Navigate(
        'Lawyer Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None
    ),
    Cleaner,
    Navigate(
        'Cleaner Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None
    ),
    Carpenter,
    Navigate(
        'Carpernter Candidates',
        ScreenTransition.None

)

The actions like Switch, Navigate, Screentransition.None are all green
The job tiles, Lawyer, Cleaner, Carpenter are green

After each Navigate command, the Lawyer Candidates, Cleaner Candidates, etc are highlighted in orange or purple, when I click on them the notification says that there's an error in this formula...

@GT81IRS - it would help if you explained what control DataCardValue_1 is (Text Input control, ComboBox control etc). If it is a Text Input control for example, you could use DataCardValue1.Text

Hi @Amik

Sorry, but I'm new to this and not sure about the input controls, but as far I'm aware, it should be text as that's what the column setting is in SharePoint.

Tried to change it to DataCardValue1.Text, but still no joy.

Not sure if it's relevant information, but the data is displayed in a form called Dataform1 that has the Datasource set as [@'LiveJobs'] and the Item is BrowseGallery1.Selected.

TitleDatacard1 is with the role information that has DataCardKey1 that has Role set as TextRole.Default and Text as Parent.Displayname and DataCardValue1 is with Role TextRole.Default and Text as Parent.Default.

Attached some screenshots.

Thanks

Hi @GT81IRS,

You were almost there, great work!

Just a few adjustments:

  • When you use the Switch function, the match_values need to be enclosed with "".
  • You can access your DataCard value with the property Default.
  • You should always handle the scenario where the value does not match any of the expected results. In this case, I put a Notify as an example, but you should handle it as you see fit.

Switch(
    DataCardValue1.Default,
    "Lawyer",
    Navigate('Lawyer Candidates'),
    "Cleaner",
    Navigate('Cleaner Candidates'),
    "Carpenter",
    Navigate('Carpernter Candidates'),
    Notify("No candidate screen found for this role")
)

Also, by default the Navigate as no screen transition, so you can remove that part.

Have a great day!

Kind regards,

Gonçalo Melo

Hi @goncalomelo8

Thank you, I think I'm getting the gist of if.

Thanks for the suggested however, the formula is still marked with an error. For some reason, it doesn't like the .Default (attached a screenshot).
