Need suggestions for my feedback application project!

Hi,

I am new to Power Apps.  Currently I am here just to build an advance feedback application for my institute.  Our institute runs professional development programs.  My requirement is to automate the questionnaire which is attached below:

This questionnaire is sample of the outcome based education audit form which we use to take after every lecture.  Currently we are using MS Teams for virtual lecturing mode.  Thus have all of our students accounts on Office 365 along with faculty members.

Question 1: Is it possible to create some sort of applications by using Power Apps quickly?  If yes, then I want students just to fill the likert scale and all the most of the other information should be automatically get from the relevant Teams meeting / Teams Channel and Office 365 logins.  As we have created all classes in MS Teams and their every lecture is identified by Teams Channel.  How to get the information of channel name, teachers name from the channel from which the user will be submitting the feedback form from our application.  Also want more information to be obtained from their login such as their name, picture, age, gender, locality etc.  But currently the information stored in Office 365 user database is just their first and last name and roll no.  can u guide to add these information to Office 365 user database in bulk.

Question 2:  Is it good idea to do this stuff with Power App or I should ask the conventional developer to develop custom  feedback application?

Meanwhile I tried to do this by using MS Forms but was unable to get students enrolled subjects, associated teacher with each subject and other data which is already available to me from their user account.

Please suggest your idea if u have any.  Currently I am using Education A1 license with students and teachers will their be any costs in order to use Power Application with A1 user.  Will this solution will be costly or shall I have to opt for one time custom application.

Hi @HassanMoosa :

Do you want to create a form to collect user's feedback?

Do you want to get the channel name, teacher name information from the current channel?

Do you want to get the information of the current user?

Do you want to update user information in batches?

Firstly,In Canvas App, creating a form is very simple, but only if the data source has been configured.

For example:

1\Add a SharePoint List:FeedBack

Column (click to edit) Type

TitleSingle line of text
Course TitleChoice
TutorsChoice
ProgramSingle line of text
Q1Choice
Q2Choice
needs to improveMultiple lines of text

2\Add this lis as the data source

3\Add a form

DataSource:

FeedBack

DefaultMode:

New

The following form will be automatically generated:

4.gif

Secondly,I am afraid that the information of the current channel cannot be obtained. I suggest that this type of information can be set to choice type, allowing users to make their own choices.(Like I demonstrated above)

Thirdly,there are two ways to obtain user information.

1\Using User() funcition.

2\Using Office 365 Users connector

For example:

Office365Users.MyProfile() /*a recode of user's info */
Office365Users.UserPhotoV2(User().Email) /*get user's photo*/

Finally,about batch updating user information, I found an article, I hope it will be useful to you.

Hi, @v-bofeng-msft thanks alot for well descriptive solution.  It has been very useful and valuable to me.

Please find answers to your questions below:

  1.  Yes, I want this to collect feedback from users
  2. Yes, I want to get information and want it to show on the form run time.  e.g. if the student open the application from Microsoft Teams class type MS Data Science, channel week 02 meeting.  All the basic information e.g.: Channel name should be set as Title, Program name should be taken from Class type team name, Batch and semester should be taken from some sort of predefined value by user ID.   Tutor name should be get from Class type teams or by defining it somewhere in our predefined value in our database.  So after getting these all values from pre-defined database, login, Teams channel, etc.   Student should only see the likert scale questions and all the other information should be retrieved from predefined values defined above or by their logins.  So we can improve user experience.  And if the user access the application outside of the teams application it should just show them class name and the pending lecture feedback.
  3. Yes I do want information from login.
  4. I did not get what do you mean by batch? But I want to add information to all users e.g DOB, Gender, Location, and much more.

  • The form developed by you is pretty much the same which I developed by using MS Forms.  My requirement to develop feedback application was just to eliminate basic questions e.g.  Which class are you enrolled in?  Select tutor?  Select semester, etc.  My idea is this if we have their login ID is it possible if my student access the application he should see feedback tiles for the classes he is enrolled in so all the other information is retrieved automatically.  Then at the management level they should see all the information along with those which was mapped with individual user login ID.

Will you please mention that I saw that in order for my user to use Power App they need its license which is about 20 - 40 $/User/App/Month.  Currently I am having Power Apps for students/faculty for Office 365 A1.  So will my users having Power App For Office 365 license will able to use the application which is developed by the user who is having Power App for Microsoft 365 A5 license?  Or they will have to pay to use the applications developed by MS 365 A5 user.

Hi @HassanMoosa

Do you want to know if only office 365 licensed users can run apps?

If users need run canvas apps connected with standard connectors, then Office365 license is enough.

I think this link will help you a lot:
