Need to change the field value once the file attachment is uploaded

I have a form that is linked to a gallery. In this form there is an option to add attachment - once attachment is loaded to sharepoint - i would like to take the file name of the file uploaded and populate this value into a text field of my edit form.

Caveat here is my text field for fileupload is linked to my data table in the back end . I tried every thing below and nothing seems to work

@zstm284 ,

Probably a checkbox (you can put it in the card) with a Visible of

Len(ThisItem.cr5f7_fileup1) > 0

and then the Update of the Data Card (so if checked, it will use the existing value)

If(
   Self.Value,
   ThisItem.cr5f7_fileup1,
   First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name
)

Hi @zstm284 ,

Firstly, please post your code in Text - the below was OCR'd so watch spelling. It appears you are trying to set some values directly - they need to be either Variables or patched. Also what is Currentitem

UploadFileToDocument_Andreyl.Run(
   {
      file:     // you need this
      {
         contentBytes: First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Value,
         name : First(DataCardVaLue7.Attachments).Name
      }
   }
);
//you cannot set values like this
Currentitem.cr5f7_fileupl: First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name;
Currentltem[@‘File Upload'] = First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name;
DataCardValuel.Text = First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name;

Patch(
   DataSource,    //needs to be specified
   Currentitem,
   {’File Upload’: First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name}
);
Notify("Message here");

//as abobe - you need to set Variables
'DataCardValuel’.Text = First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name;

Thank you for your reply ,

CurrentItem

is the UpdateContext Variable that is created in the EditForm. for all fields to use.

So my patch function was using it as a datasource

I even tried to do below piece of code as i have seen it from Microsoft portal

UpdateContext( { CurrentItem: Patch( CurrentItem , {'File Upload' : First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name } ) } );
Notify(CurrentItem[@'File Upload'] );

zstm284_0-1702806963021.png

I tried below - it still does not work.

'Travel Information' - is the dataverse table from back end.

I am wondering if it is like this because the value fields are using some kind of binding that does not allow for programmatic change via formulas

Patch(CurrentItem, CurrentItem, { 'File Upload' : First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name});

Patch('Travel Information', CurrentItem, { 'File Upload' : First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name});

@zstm284 ,

I am a little unclear what you are trying to do with the rest of the code, but if you simply want a Text field in your data source to contain the name of the first attachment, put the field in your Form and make the Default of the Text control

First(DataCardValue7.Attachments).Name

and it will save this value to the field when you submit the form.

Thank You WarrenBelz, for your suggestion. I tried - it seems to have done the job of populating the field. However, problem i have now is - When I choose a new entry from my gallery to have it updated - If this new entry had other file name in the database - this file name would be overwritten by what is currently in the attachment control. And I need for user to see what the value is from Dataverse table, and give user option to change it with the new attachment.
