Need to refresh screen automatically to get updated value from SharePoint

I need to refresh powerapp screen automatically rather than manually refreshing the app everytime.

I have a column in SharePoint where the value gets updated at 2:00PM everyday. So if i open my mobile app at 1:55PM, it shows old values.

Without refreshing the powerapp screen at 2:00PM, my updated value from sharepoint column should be shown in powerapp label.

Any idea how to achieve this ?

This last option I have never needed but the logic makes sense:

Another option is to use a timer to reset at scheduled intervals with a condition that the hour must be equal to 14 and it has not refreshed yet for that user.:

  1. Add a Timer control to the screen from the Insert tab in the Input group.
  2. Select the OnTimerEnd property for the screen. In the formula bar, type:

    If(And(Hour(Now()) = 14, varDataLastRef < Today()),Refresh(DatasourceName );
    Set(varDataLastRef,Today()))

    Swap DatasourceName with your actual data source name.
  3. In the Timer properties panel, toggle the Repeat and Auto start properties on.
  4. Toggle the Auto pause property off.
  5. Set the Duration to 300000. (The duration field is in milliseconds. 300000ms = 5 minutes. For your app you can decrease/increase the value but beware of refreshing too often with large datasets as it could render the app experience less pleasant.

feel free to change the duration of the timer as you see fit

Also sorry for the multiple different posts/solution ideas I just kept thinking of a different way to do this after I posted my last idea 🙂

You have a few options i recommend adding the refresh icon to your screen and making the OnSelect Refresh(DatasourceName)
Add a label near it asking users to do it.

Wow @AJ_Z I was going to reply saying a refresh at/after a specific time was not currently possible and was going to suggest an invisible refresh, onselect refresh or regular timer refresh. You have proved me wrong what a great idea your third option is. I already have a use case for it thanks for sharing this 😊.

@NelaEdu Happy to help you out and it just made a bit of sense to give that a try in my head I just ran a test and yeh it works 🙂

@AJ_Z I'm in a similar situation and hoping for some help.
I have an app with a screen that has a gallery and within the gallery is a "Run" button that gets data from a data source. The data comes back with a status that is displayed in the gallery and some other values that are stored and updated. I'd like to use a timer that starts when the user clicks the "Run" button in the gallery to run a function that gets all the statuses for that gallery every 30 seconds and stops when All of the statuses in that gallery are equal to "Succeeded".

Do you think that's possible?

@Iantaylor2050

I faced the same: willing to refresh a gallery/collection at a specific time.

And actually the solution is both ingenious and simple: Create a flow in Power Automate that calculates the difference between now and the moment you want an action to be executed.

(FYI: This request is triggered by the onvisible of my screen)

BlueChip_0-1710322176610.png

In my case, I want a collection to be refreshed every Monday at 10AM.

I compose the 'ddd' of today and the 'hh' of today.

In the condition I check whether it's Monday and the time is before10AM. If false, no action is taken.

(As my collection is being built on the onvisible  as well, there should be no response from Power Automate, because the user will get the most recent data.)

If true, I compose the DT I want the timer to end (Monday at 10AM) and the DT of the request = now.

I calculate the difference of both to be sent back to Power Apps as the timer duration.

(Remember to use 'ticks' for your DT-calculations and keep in mind you timezone, as Power Automate uses UTC.)

Compose DT timer end:

Compose DT now:

BlueChip_2-1710322791255.png

Compose Calculate the difference:

In my response to Power Apps, I send 2 parameters:

1. text: RefreshNow which acts as the variable to start the timer

2. number: The time difference in milliseconds as a variable for the timer duration

Is there a way to do this only when an item has been add or changed?   the data source will not change too often, so I want the data source to update upon adding a new item to the sharepoint list, so the user doesn't have the extra step to click Refresh in the App.
