Newbie needs help patching DropDown results to List

Hello Everyone!

I am a newbie as of this week in a fast crunch for survival.

I am creating an App using a gallery that will be solely dropdown answers with yes/no/na options.

I need to attach these answers to a prexisting SharePoint List.

Seems simple enough of a task but I am completely lost.

I have been messing around with a couple soultions and have been trying to create a collection and patch it to the corresponding SharePoint list but I cant get them to match properly.

Is this the correct direction or am I barking up the wrong tree?

How would you manage this task?

Please Help, thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Welcome to the wonderful world of PowerApps. I am pretty sure you will like it 🙂

If I am understanding correctly, you are going to update the choice into the sharepoint list using patch.

If so, I would use dropdown choice control and set its values as yes/no/na NOT the gallery.

I have included screenshot and set the value for dropdown with its property Items, and submit it by button from its property OnSelect. I have shown what values should they have.

Please let me know if it helps or if you have any question.

Thanks,

Nabin

@pNabin

Thank you so much for this quick response and this warm welcome to the world of PowerApps. I am very comfortable in Python and Matlab, so I am looking foward to learning this new language.

This has helped me GREATLY after my days of battling this on my own, but unfortunately only to some extent.

Only some of the records update, and it seems to only be when I click "Submit". This form will have over 800 questions (luckily divided into chapters), so I am really hoping to limit my users clicks.

Would the answer involve a "ForAll" command?

Thanks again for your help so far!

Hi @Anonymous ,

If there are lots of questions in the form, than try SubmitForm(). I feel SubmitForm() more easier than Patch() and Patch() is more flexible. But, it depends on different scenario.

The documentation for submitForm:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-form

May be Shane Young youtube video could be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Badj3_T8zAw

Thanks,

Nabin

Thanks!

I tried making a form with this originally, but the questions seem to be too long for forms.

Is there a solution to get around that?

And thanks for the video recommendation, but I have already seen it :). Shaun Young definitely gets the credit for me getting to where I am now over the past 5 days haha.

@Anonymous,

You mean questions are long means, not all questions fits in one screen?
If that is the case, you can split it into multiple screens like: 5 questions in one screen, More button will submit the questions and take to the second screen that has 6-10, continue this switching screens until all questions are answered. I am not sure if this address your scenario.
If you still have questions, please explain in details and may be screenshots, it could be helpful.

Thanks again for your quick response Nabin, I really appreciate it!

I took a screen shot of what my app will roughly look like.

The text for each question has too many characters to be column title, so how can I get all the text in as labels for a form? Is this possible?

Thanks again, you are helping me SO MUCH.

Hi @Anonymous ,

How about using microsoft forms to create this form and storing the form entries into the sharepoint list using Flow?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogozM0OY2l0

Form the column name, I would use question1, question2 etc. and use those questions references in another list like in the screenshot.

I hope this could solve your problem. If not, I can share the solution with powerapps without forms.

Thanks,

Nabin
