Newest entry shown in gallery and in table

I've been tasked to learn power apps during this WFH time so bare with me as i'm very new to all the coding.

I made practice power-lift sign off app from blank canvas using excel as a data source. table1 has my drop down list names and table2 contains my collection data. The problem I'm having is getting the gallery on my second screen and the table to show the most recent submission. note: on screen 1 I have the date label showing Now().

Here is what I have for the "sign off" button. Everything other than name and date are check boxes that I have showing "yes", "no" for my columns in table2.

Collect(Table2, {Name: employee.Selected.Result, Date: date.Text, Battery: battery.Text, Liftmoves: liftmoves.Text, Liftupdown: liftupdown.Text, Bodystop: bodystop.Text, Horn: horn.Text, Armlimitswitch: armlimitswitch.Text})

I added a gallery for screen 2 and it's displaying table2. I selected the date and name fields to be displayed. I would like the gallery and the excel sheet to display the the most recent. I've tried many thing with no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Are you trying to sort your Gallery by newest to oldest entries?  Put this code in the Items property of the gallery.

Sort(Table2, Date, Descending);

You might want to change your Text Input for "Date" into a DatePicker though to ensure the data gets written to Excel in a Date-format as opposed to text.  Then you can Collect it like this

Collect(Table2, {Name: employee.Selected.Result, Date: DatePicker_Date.SelectedDate, Battery: battery.Text, Liftmoves: liftmoves.Text, Liftupdown: liftupdown.Text, Bodystop: bodystop.Text, Horn: horn.Text, Armlimitswitch: armlimitswitch.Text})

Hi @howie68tbc ,

It seems that you are facing a new problem that the date column shows as UTC time zone in gallery, right?
Could you share more detail (screenshots, codes or something) about this?

To overcome time zone errors, please try with DateAdd and TimeZoneOffset functions.

Hope this helps.

Hi @howie68tbc ,

I agree with @mdevaney workaround. The main issue is that the date column is Text type, if you want to show the most recent items, please change the date column to date type.

Collect(Table2, {Name: employee.Selected.Result, Date: DateTimeValue(date.Text), Battery: battery.Text, Liftmoves: liftmoves.Text, Liftupdown: liftupdown.Text, Bodystop: bodystop.Text, Horn: horn.Text, Armlimitswitch: armlimitswitch.Text})

Then sort the gallery by date column in descending order by set Gallery.Items property: Sort(Table2, Date, Descending)

But I have a question, you said that you have a date label showing Now(), the 'date.Text' can only return a fixed data time.

So I don't think this makes sense if you want to collect the current date time to collection when you click 'sign off' button.

I recommend this code more:

Collect(Table2, {Name: employee.Selected.Result, Date: Now(), Battery: battery.Text, Liftmoves: liftmoves.Text, Liftupdown: liftupdown.Text, Bodystop: bodystop.Text, Horn: horn.Text, Armlimitswitch: armlimitswitch.Text})

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help.

I wasn't able to get the datepicker to write to my data source even after changing the column to date instead of text. I tried both suggestions. I must be missing something. I did however change the date label from now() to today() as the sign off for this piece of equipment will only be once a day so there's no need for the time stamp. With the excel "date" column changed to date type i'm able to sort with the column drop down newest to oldest but now it's showing up in my gallery as UTC datetime. I think just changing the date column back to text will be the easiest. What's most important is that someone can see if it was signed off for that day or not. The Sort(Table2, Date, Descending) fixed that issue. Hope that all made sense. Never realized how much time can be spent trying to fix something that seems so simple. HA!
