On Prem SQL DB Values are not visible in Dropdown control

I am trying to create a Dropdown control from an on Premise SQL table. I am trying to follow the way that works so well for Sharepoint lists.

On Prem sql table is called "dbo.Depot"

1. I have a dropdown control called ddDepot. Its "Items" element is set to point to my on Pem SQL table as follows :'[dbo].[Depot]' .
2. Under the advanced section of the properties of the dropdown control "ddDepot" I can see all the items under the value section. So the control can see the values in the DB.
3. The Default setting  of ddDepot is set to "Parent.Default".
4. The Update property of the Datacard is set to "ddDepot.Selected.Value"

I get no error messages in the code but the values from the "dbo.Depot" databse are not visible in the ddDepot dropdown control within my app.

Where am I going wrong?

Hi skidmarks64,

Are you using custom data card or standard data card?

When using custom data card, we don’t have an Update property, so I assume that you are using a standard data card.

Please try to set the Items property of the Dropdown control as ThisItem.ColumnName to see if it will work.

I have tried your steps and they are working fine for me. What are the data types in your table? Please make sure you do have data within the table.

I am using a standard data card.

I fear I may have forgotten to mention a crucial bit of information. I am using 2 databases.

The app itself updates all records to a database called [dbo.DWB]. The dropdown control needs to look up data from [dbo.Depot] and then save the data to [dbo.DWB] with all the other app data.

When I tried you suggestion it does not work as the dropdown control looks at the depot column of the [dbo.DWB] database, not the [dbo.Depot] database, if that makes sense?

I don`t know if this is the same case I had, but I was experiencing the same thing, the dropdown showed the list but with empty strings, sounds tricky, but if you just click on the dropdown while designing the form (directly click on the dropdown, not the datacard) magically you will get the data, that`s how it worked for me.

Thanks for updating.

According to your description, I add another table as data source to test this issue. But I am still not able to reproduce it.

Please see my reproduce steps, if there is any difference with you, please feel free post back.

1. Create an app based on table [dbo].[a2].
2. Add a new table as data source, the table name is [dbo].[Table_1].
3. On EditScreen, customize the “name” data card. Go to Advanced option, unlock the card. Then delete the Text input control, add a Dropdown control.
4. Set the Items property of the Dropdown control as '[dbo].[Table_1]'.Name, Default property as Parent.Default.
5. About the card, set its Update property as Dropdown1.Selected.Value.
6. There are values for the Dropdown control, and the app works fine when I click the SubmitForm button.

What’s the Data type of the column you are trying to use?

I test this issue with text and int data type. They are all working fine.

Yes all my mistake. My SQL tables were not setup correctly...:0(

Sorted now.
