Parameterizing Bar Code Scanner Control

Hello,

I need some kind of help or guide for the Bar Code application, its that I want to parameterize my Scan Button,

like if the user selects the Prefix "S" which means he will only scan Serial Codes.
and if the user selects Prefix "LS or 1S" which means he will only scan Product  Code along with Serial and than patch both of the values in respective columns like in Serial Code and Product Code  Column. and so on.

This will help to control the Bar Code Scanner control, and if the user selected Prefix "S", and it scans the Product Serial code, than it should get a popup like this is not a Serial Bar Code.

Something like that.

is there any workaround for this kind of requirement because the Bar Code Scanner type is set to Auto, the client don't want to change that, instead they require a dropdown where they can select a prefix and according to that prefix the bar code scanner work accordingly.

Any Help?

Hi @MH3 :

Maybe using StartsWith() can make the formula more concise:

If(
   ToggleIssue.Value=false && StartsWith(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,PrefixSelected.Selected.Title),
   If(IsEmpty(Filter('Barcodes - Test',  BarcodeScanner2_3.Value = Title)),
       Patch('Barcodes - Test',    // Patch Command
                       Defaults('Barcodes - Test'),
                          {
                          SerialCode:Right(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,8),
                          'Product Code': Mid(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,3,10),
                          Title:BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,
                          'Batch No': BatchSelection.Selected.Title,
                          ReceiveCheck: ToggleIssue.Value,
                          UserName:MyUser,
                          ReceivedSatus: "Yet To Receive",
                          When:Today() + Time(Hour(Now()), Minute(Now()),Second(Now()))
                          }
                       ),
           Set(_DuplicateScan,true)
         ),
   Notify("Wrong bar code")
)

Hi @MH3 :

I think this should not be a particularly difficult requirement. But I want to clarify your request first.

Could you tell me:

  • What is the difference between Serial Codes/Product Code? How does the App distinguish which are Serial Codes and which are Product Codes?Is there a code list that can determine the type of code detected?
  • Do you want to dynamically adjust the BarcodeType property of the Bar Code Scanner Control based on the selection of the dropdown control?

If you want to change the BarcodeType property based on a dropdown, you can refer to this solution:

1\Add a drop down control(Dropdown2) and set it's Items property to:

[BarcodeType.Auto,BarcodeType.Aztec,BarcodeType.Codabar,BarcodeType.Code128]

2\Set the BarcodeScanner control's BarcodeType property to

Dropdown2.Selected.Value

Hi @v-bofeng-msft ,

Thanks for your reply.

Actually, the requirement is not like that which you have stated. it's actually we have to scan some products boxes bar codes,

which have some serial bar codes and some Product and Serial together bar codes. and they vary from company to company products.

So, now we are testing it out for Lenovo products. The serial code starts with a Prefix of "S" and Product and Serial together code starts with a Prefix of "1S" in Lenovo specific. So, I created a dropdown control of "S" and "1S". if the user selects "1S" scans the code and if the First Left 2 characters matches with the selected, it then perform a Patch operation. and if its not matches than it will show a popup alert >> Not a 1S Bar Code Type. same goes for the "S", it will match the first left 1 character with the dropdown selected one and performs a patch operation. otherwise show popup >> Not a S Bar Code Type.

if
the already scanned code, is scanned one more time it will show a popup >>> Already Scanned,  for both of the cases.

This thing is working but I am stuck in some if statement can you please help me out of that??

The "1S" is working fine and showing the respective popups, but when I test it out for "S" it's just broke, the Popup for S and 1S, are showing at the same time if correct code is scanned. I have used nested if statements.

If(ToggleIssue.Value=false && PrefixSelected.Selected.Title = Left(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,2),

// Left(BarCodeScanner2_3.Value,2) is used because if the user has selected ("1S") Prefix, than it will match with it while scanning and store Serial code and Product information.

If(IsEmpty(Filter('Barcodes - Test',  BarcodeScanner2_3.Value = Title)),

\\ The Above if condition will checks in the Database if there is an entry or not , at first it will return false and then it will patch the data into the databse, and if the scanned code is scannned again it will show a popup to the user as Already Scanned.

   Patch('Barcodes - Test',    // Patch Command

   Defaults('Barcodes - Test'),

   {
   SerialCode:Right(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,8),
   'Product Code': Mid(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,3,10),
   Title:BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,
   'Batch No': BatchSelection.Selected.Title,
   ReceiveCheck: ToggleIssue.Value,
   UserName:MyUser,
   ReceivedSatus: "Yet To Receive",
   When:Today() + Time(Hour(Now()), Minute(Now()),Second(Now()))
   }
),Set(_DuplicateScan,true)),  // Duplicate Popup

If(ToggleIssue.Value=false && PrefixSelected.Selected.Title = Left(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,1),

// Left(BarCodeScanner2_3.Value,1) is used because if the user has selected ("S") Prefix, than it will match with it and store only Serial code information.

If(IsEmpty(Filter('Barcodes - Test',  BarcodeScanner2_3.Value = Title)),

   Patch('Barcodes - Test',

   Defaults('Barcodes - Test'),

   {
   SerialCode: Right(BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,8),
   Title:BarcodeScanner2_3.Value,
   'Batch No': BatchSelection.Selected.Title,
   ReceiveCheck: ToggleIssue.Value,
   UserName:MyUser,
   ReceivedSatus: "Yet To Receive",
   When:Today() + Time(Hour(Now()), Minute(Now()),Second(Now()))
   }

),Set(_DuplicateScan,true),

Set(_NotSerialCode,true)) // if the user has selected (1S) and if he tries to scan a serial code, or any other code which does not match, it will show a popup, Not a 1S Code

,Set(_NotISCode,true))) // if the user has selected (S) and if he tries to scan a serial code, or any other code which does not match, it will show a popup, Not a S Code
