Passing values from PowerApp to PowerAutomate and backwards

Hi Community,

I would like to write a program that does some more complex string manipulation. The way strings shall be manipulated is depending on 2 different values, stored in formulars as below:

Power App:

  1. has a textfield, containing value 1
  2. has a slider, containing value 2
  3. has a button to start the programm (the power automate flow)
  4. has another textfield, where the manipulated string shall appear in the end

Power Automate:

  1. Shall do the string manipulation
  2. And give the result back to Power App into a textfield (as per point 4 above)

I am aware how to pass values to a Power-Automate Flow, but I would know how Power-Automate can give results back to the Power-App, so that these are stored in the textfield.

Is that possible in general and is there some documentation somewhere ?

Thank you in advance

Hi @DarkTrinity ,

This one then?

Set(
   varHash;
   Generate.Run(
      fld_word.Text;
      Slider1.Value
   ).hash
)

Please include the formula that's giving the errors as well in your posts, since some things don't seem to add up.

Hi @DarkTrinity ,

DOcumentation can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/canvas-apps/how-to/trigger-flow

A little tip: use the Power Apps v2 trigger in Power Automate since that will allow you to set the values the flow requires from the Power App. The default Power Apps trigger doesn't allow for this.

Use the Respond to Flow or App action to define the values that get passed back to the Power App.

I still do not understand this....

Within PowerAutomate I do not find an anction that would provide a return value... If I search for actions  by using searchkeys "return" or "respon" I get nothing where I would expect it is usable

In the PowerApp I have added the following command on the button, assigned to the method "onselect":

lbl_result.Text=Generate.Run(fld_word;Slider1.Value)

It provides a warning triangle, I guess because the flow would not return anything yet

Hi @DarkTrinity ,

The action you want in your flow to return a value is called "Respond to a PowerApp or flow":

I agree in assuming the warning your get (yellow triangle) is caused by the lack of a defined response in the flow. Please share the warning text to confirm.

Hi @BCBuizer ,

I did as you explained, now the red triangle is replaced by a red error cross, stating:

"some types are incompatible for comparison. these types cannot be compared: text, record"

I am passing a scale's value and a text-input to the flow.

the flow shall take this as text and number.

and give back a text

Hi @DarkTrinity ,

WIth your current formula you are trying to compare the entire object that is returned by the flow instead of the text value inside it. To select it Power App, use the period operator, for instance:

In the Power App:

That does not work and I guess I do not understan dthis at all 😐

The button in the app shall execute the flow and make the value, returned by flow, come into a textfield.

Here are screenshots of the formular and the start and end of the flow. nothing is working

Writing the sam eprogram in python took me 3 minutes. doing this with PowerApp took already 3 days and has no result 🤣

Hi @DarkTrinity ,

To set the the value of a label, you first need to save the returned value from the flow in a variable:

Set(
   varHash;
   Generate.Run(
      fld_word.text;
      Slider1.Value
   ).hash
)

This variable can then be referenced from the Text property of the label:

varHash

As for the error, try to refresh the flow in the app (and publish after):
