Patch Month Column Based on Current Month

I have a SharePoint list that has the following Column: Jan, Feb, Mar, April, May, Jun, July, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec. I want update each column based on the current month. If current month is May Update Column and so on

Good!! I can't think of any other way than using conditional functions. (Switch/If)

sorry, It depends on your geographical situation, to separate the parameters of the function you may have to use "," instead of ";"

Probably it's easier to add a column "month" to your data source and save the name of the month in there, but if you insist on having 12 column for each month, the below pattern should work:

Switch(
    Month(Today()),
    1, Patch( DataSource, ItemToPatch, {Jan: "Value"}),
    2. Patch( DataSource, ItemToPatch, {Feb: "Value"}),
    3, etc. etc.
)

Here is an example:

ClearCollect(localMonthTest, Filter(Test, LastName = "May"));
ForAll(localMonthTest As varMonth, Patch(Test, varMonth, {Age: 5}));

This goes through the list and changes Age to 5 for any row with "May" as the last name.

I would have love to have month column in list but this concept of my app:

I want to develop a leave application where i have 36 days yearly leave balance, 3 days is allocated to each month of the year by default . If you use 2 days in January , by the time you get February your allocated leave days become 4. So what ever you have unused in a month is added to the coming months. And what ever you have left in in the year is subtracted from your yearly balance, which in turn is added to the first month of a new calendar year.

Have a column called leaveBalance and then just make a flow that adds 3 days on the first of every month. Here is a scenario. Dave used 2 days in Jan, 1 day in Feb, then 3 days in March and April and no days in May or June. What does he start July with?

Starts jan with 3 and uses two so would have 1 left end of jan.

Starts feb with 4 (3+1) and uses one so would have 3 left end of feb.

Starts march with 6 (3+3) and uses 3 days so would have 3 left end of march.

Starts april with 6 (3+3) and uses 3 days so would have 3 left end of april.

Starts may with 6 (3+3) and uses 0 so ends with 9

Starts june with 9 (6+3) and uses 0 so ends with 12

In that case having a month column is probably going to make your life even easier.

For instance, you filter your datasource for a certain employee, for a certain year and a month value which is smaller or equal to the current month. You can than just use Sum for the amount of leave that was taken in that year to date instead of having to sum up values from individual columns. Columns which you'll have to write a selection formula for as well, exponentially increasing the length of your formulas and hence development time.

It just makes the whole thing more flexible to work with instead of having to write tons of lengthy formulas to perform mundane tasks.
