Hi everyone,
I need some help and I have spent literally over a week trying to make this work and it’s making me crazy!
I have a PowerBi dashboard that is integrated with a PowerApp. I created a gallery which has 6 different labels as well as a TextInput box for users to enter comments.
I want the user to press submit and the items listed in the gallery + the comments entered in the TextInput will be stored as a new line item in my SharePoint list which contains 6 columns (same name as each label) and 1 column for comments.
Can someone help me? Is this even possible?
thanks in advance!
@Anonymous
Essentially, you will do the following:
Patch(yourList,
ForAll(yourGallery.AllItems,
{columnName1: ControlName1.<Text|Selected|etc>,
columnName2: ControlName2.<Text|Selected|etc>,
...etc...
}
)
)
You just need to fill in the above with the names of your list, columns and controls.
I hope this is helpful for you.
Thank you so much for your fast response
Can I ask you, what goes in place of <Text|Selected|etc>? In this case, would it be the gallery field?
I have added the column name of my SharePoint column, the control name (the id of the data that shows in my label?) and then I’m not sure about the last part.
My apologies, I am very new to this. Your patience and help are very very much appreciated!
The name of the control you are using in your gallery. If a text input then that would be MyTextInput.Text, if a combobox it would be MyComboBox.Selected.Value.
Something to be aware of that I recently discovered when using ForAll on Gallery.AllItems to get the values of controls inside that gallery. Control values aren't available if the gallery is inside a layout container or form card. I had to use a collection as my gallery datasource in this scenario.
Cheers,
Dean
Thank you for the clarification @Digital
I am not sure if I am misunderstanding @RandyHayes original formula, or if I am missing a point, but I’ve attached an image of what I am trying to achieve and how I have edited the formula according to my understanding of the instructions provided.
I know I have done something wrong with the formula because it doesn’t work:
Patch(Contacts,
ForAll(Gallery1.AllItems,
{Title:TextInput1.Text
PHONE_NUMBER: PHONE_NUMBER.Text
FULL_NAME: FULL_NAME.Text
ADDRESS: ADDRESS.Text
}
)
)

So the question then is this - your original post stated "a new line item". This implies that you are trying to create new records for all of the items in your gallery. Is that correct? Or are you trying to update the records from the changes made in the gallery? Ort some combination of the two?
I apologize, I might not have explained myself properly.
The data in my gallery comes from a PowerBi dashboard. The dashboard runs a query on a corporate server and it puts it into a table. I am trying to create a method that achieves two things:
1. Allows me to add updates through powerapps to each line item that is selected in my powerbi table
2. Those updates are stored in Sharepoint
What I have done is connected the PowerBi to PowerApps, used PowerBiIntegration to connect my data to a gallery and when a line item on my powerbi table is selected, that item shows up in my gallery. Then the user can enter their comments in the TextInput and submit to SharePoint. The new line item in SharePoint would include the comments and the TextInput as well as whatever fields are included in my gallery.
i know it might sound convoluted, so if there is an easier way to achieve my goal, please tell me. I’m brand new to PowerApps, so I am trying my best to understand.
@Anonymous
Well first coming to mind is - why a gallery for a single item? Galleries are for listing items (plural) in them. An EditForm is best used to provide what you want. Have you consider using an EditForm?
OR - are you simply listing all of the PowerBI records in your gallery and allowing the user to enter comments directly there? That is not what I gathered from the photo you provided.
What is it in your PowerBI records that would link it back to the original list? You will need (best) the ID of the SharePoint record to update. Is your PowerBI table providing that column to you?
Thank you for your patience Randy,
I am not sure why I chose a Gallery, I think I initially saw a video somewhere where I thought it made sense at the time. The problem is, since my data source is in a corporate database and the query just refreshes the data in a table on PowerBi, none of those 1000 or so line items are saved anywhere in SharePoint and they are updated each time I refresh PowerBi query. So as a result, I have a PowerBi connected to a corporate database, and a PowerApp/SharePoint list, both operating separate of each other with no connection, except the powerapps tile that I’ve added to the PowerBi dashboard.
My only goal is to integrate the PowerApp into the PowerBi dashboard, so that when I click on a specific line in my PowerBi table, I’ll be able to enter comments for that line item in SharePoint. If I just add a TextInput box and allow the users to submit their comments, I won’t know what table line item those comments correspond with.
I recognize that what I’m saying might not make sense as I’m struggling to articulate it clearly.
