I'm currently trying to patch a radio button into a SharePoint, but am proving to have some difficulties as I don't know how to run multiple 'else-like' functions. I want it to patch only if the column is blank and it has to update the previously selected user. The way it works so far is like so...
You select a staff member for evaluation from a gallery list which navigates to the feedback screen via this code:
Set(varGroupMemEd, ThisItem); Navigate(FeedbackForm)
This is the current code I have in place for the patch:
Patch(
CharterProjectSP,
If(
IsBlank(varGroupMemEd),
Defaults(CharterProjectSP)
),
{
Q1a: Q1Radio.Selected.Value,
UserSubmit1: User().Email
}
);
This code obviously has errors.
Key things I need implemented in the code are:
- I need the code to patch for the selected user
- I need it to patch only if the column doesn't contain data (IsBlank)
- If the column contains data I need it to patch in the next column, rough e.g.:
Patch this:
Q1a: Q1Radio.Selected.Value,
UserSubmit1: User().Email
else, patch this:
Q1b: Q1Radio.Selected.Value,
UserSubmit2: User().Email
else, patch this:
Q1c: Q1Radio.Selected.Value,
UserSubmit3: User().Email
else, patch this:
Q1d: Q1Radio.Selected.Value,
UserSubmit4: User().Email
else, patch this:
Q1e: Q1Radio.Selected.Value,
UserSubmit5: User().Email
Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks in advance 🙂
Hi @DarkShadows117 ,
You are progressively patching the same values Q1Radio.Selected.Value and User().Mail to different fields Q1a to Q1e andUserSubmit1 to UserSubmit5. Other than varGroupMemEd, what has to be blank to progress to the next field set ?
Hi @WarrenBelz, the patch function will be run multiple times from the same user but for different staff group members which will be set by varGroupMemEd. So essentially I want the function to scan sequentially. First check if Q1a && UserSubmit1 are blank, if so, patch. Otherwise move to check if Q1b && UserSubmit2 are blank and so forth. However, when it meets the correct criteria, I want it to patch just once (i.e. don't patch all 5 columns).
So it will essentially run one patch, with multiple checks.
But you are running Q1Radio.Selected.Value and User().Mail to every field - what value needs to be tested as blank ? How do you set varGroupMemEd and what possible values can it contain ?
Hi @WarrenBelz, yep, so Q1Radio.Selected.Value and User().Email will be run each time. The values to be tested as blank are the ones mentioned above in the last code sample I provided (the if, else, else, else, else statement). Because I can only patch those columns if they are blank.
So essentially the blank values to be tested in pairs are:
- Q1a && UserSubmit1
- Q1b && UserSubmit2
- Q1c && UserSubmit3
- Q1d && UserSubmit4
- Q1e && UserSubmit5
Alternatively, you could probably just do the blank check for just one of them (i.e. either the Q1a,b,c,d,e or UserSubmit1,2,3,4,5) as opposed to doing both. As the patch function needs to record them in pairs. So if one exists, so does the other.
This is getting more confusing the further it goes. The UserSubmitx and Q1x fields are the targets, not the input. They will be blank until populated with the input. What are you testing in the input ? Note I will be offline overnight now due to timezone,
Apologies @WarrenBelz if I'm not explaining it the best.
I hope this helps, I've attached an image which shows the columns.
I only want to patch these columns if they are blank (implementing how I mentioned above).
The radio button (Q1Radio) is what will patch the information to the SharePoint.
The radio button information will go into the Q1x, whereas the User().Email will get recorded into the respective UserSubmitx.
Sorry still confused - you are patching a new record, so all the questions will be blank initially. If you are updating a particular record, how do you identify that record ?
@WarrenBelz, sorry for the confusion!
All records will be new patches. The ability to update these columns will not be possible due to the other coding you helped me with that hides the staff members names if one of the UserSubmitx contains User().Email. See below for quick reference:
With(
{
wGroup: LookUp(
CharterProjectSP,
EmailAddress = User().Email
).GroupCode
},
With(
{
wList: Filter(
CharterProjectSP,
GroupCode = wGroup
)
},
Filter(
wList,
UserSubmit1 <> User().Email &&
UserSubmit2 <> User().Email &&
UserSubmit3 <> User().Email &&
UserSubmit4 <> User().Email &&
UserSubmit5 <> User().Email &&
EmailAddress <> User().Email
)
)
)
