Is there anyway to store data locally on the client.  My use case is the database the user is accessing uses its own Username so I have a CDM table that coorelates 365 email address to those usernames.  Once the app is up and running and I've looked up the value once I don't want to have ot make the call again.  There will be no scenario where that will change for the life of the app.

If this is possible, does it survive an app update?

Yes, it is possible, and there are two avenues to accomplish this.

1. Use the LoadData/SaveData functions. The former will let you load data from the local app storage into an existing collection, whose schema you control. The latter will let you save a collection or some other data into local app storage.

2. Use the Import/Export controls. Unlike LoadData/SaveData, this approach produces unencrypted data that can be shared across apps and users.

The former will likely not survive an app update, unless the local app storage is unaffected by the update (which tends not to be the case). The latter requires user input and OS consent (for specifying where the data is persisted), and will always survive app updates.

Here's an example of (1), please feel free to adapt it as needed:

    SaveButton.OnSelect = Collect(EmailState, { Email: LookUp(CDMUsers, Username = "Joe", Email) }); SaveData(EmailState, "EmailState")

    LoadButton.OnSelect = Clear(EmailState); LoadData(EmailState, "EmailState")

For approach (2) the wiring is different, but here's the essence of it:

    Export1.Data = EmailState

    Import1.OnSelect = Collect(EmailState, Import1.Data)

However this latter approach has to be "primed" at authoring time. That is, you need to press the Export/Import buttons at least once for PowerApps to understand what the expected schema will be for the import.

Hi there

I have tried to implement the first one with no luck but I was wondering if my apporach was right.

I am trying to store some user specific data i.e. credentials to a 3rd party API on their device and be able to have it persistent, i.e. even when quitting the app and restarting a day or so later.

I tried with collection but it did not seem to survive the stop and restart (couldn't find SavaData if that was the way to).

It would look like the second method should be used to access the device local storage.

Any recommendations ?
