Power Apps - Filtering Data Table based on column values

Hi community,

I am new to Power Apps and I am trying to get to grips with filtering and would like to seek some advice.

I have a gallery that, when the user selects an option (either A, B or C) as per 1st screenshot below, the data in a data table is filtered to display only the relevant row (e.g. Title A in the second screenshot).

tp55_4-1632821318756.png tp55_1-1632821073497.png

The bit I am struggling with now is that I need to filter the data table based on the value displayed in the columns - I would like to show only rows with an 'X' in them.

Please note - my end game is for the user to select an option from gallery 1 - as per the first screenshot - and be presented with another gallery (or other control) that will only show the columns that are relevant for Title A - i.e. those marked with an 'X'. The user needs to them be able to select one of multiple of these displayed rows (e.g. with checkboxes).

What I am presenting here is me slowly working my way towards this goal whilst also trying to learn the functionalities of Power Apps.

Based on the above, I would love to know if anyone can provide any advice on a better, more efficient way to achieve my goal?

As I said, I am very new to this so I know that what I have done so far is not the most streamlined and I won't be offended by any suggestions (or constructive criticism - that's how we learn right :-))

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your response. This is the first time that I used the forum to reach out for help so apologies if I don't include the info you requested at the first try:

My app is very basic at the moment - in the initial gallery i have the code as follows:

OnSelect: Navigate(TaskSelection); Set(globalVariable, 'Epic selection gallery'.Selected.'Epic Title')

Items: Search(TaskToEpicMapping,'Search Text Box on Home'.Text,"Epic_x0020_Title")

The table is on the TaskSelection screen with code as follows:

Items: Filter(TaskToEpicMapping, 'Epic Title' = globalVariable)

I've also attached a couple of screenshots.

Both the gallery and the data table are pulling data from the same Excel table currently stored on One Drive

Thanks for any advice you can provide. If you need me to provide anything else (or in case I've misunderstood your request) please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi @tp55 ,

Thanks for being a part of this forum.

In your code would you mind trying code something like below. Update the column name in the below code and x value and give it a try.

Items: Filter(TaskToEpicMapping, 'Epic Title' = globalVariable && ('Extraction of Full ColumnName1'="x" || 'Extraction of Full ColumnName2'="x" || 'Extraction of Full ColumnName1'="x"))

Hi @PriyankaGeethik ,

Thanks so much for your help.

I have updated the code for the Task Selection Data Table to the following and the code is fully accepted with no errors - however, as per the screenshot, unfortunately, the data table returns no data. Do you know why this may be the case?

Items: Filter(TaskToEpicMapping, 'Epic Title' = globalVariable && ('ColA - Extraction of ....'="x" || 'ColB - Extraction of ...'="x" || 'ColC - Extraction of ...'="x" || 'ColD - Extraction of ...'="x"))

Thanks again.

Hi @tp55 ,

It might be due to mismatch in "x". Do you check in the backend is it small x or Capital X ?

Hi @PriyankaGeethik,

Thanks - I can't believe I missed that.

I've just re-run and the following happens:

1) If I click a row in the gallery that has a column with an X in it, this row is selected in the data table but all columns are shown (i.e. those with and without an X)

tp55_1-1632832741103.png

2) If I click on a row that has no Xs in it, this row is not shown at all.

tp55_3-1632833150584.png

Net, the filter I originally had set still works for rows that have an X but the rows without an X don't show.

Please can you explain the syntax of the code that you shared? Should this only return columns that have the value of X?

Thanks.

TP

Hi @tp55 ,

Yes, you analyzed it correctly the code only returns rows if in any of the column has "X". Please let me know if this is as per your requirement or the requirement is something else ?

The overall filter is if in any row 'Epic Title' = globalVariable  and any column has "X" it will be shown else hidden.

Hi @PriyankaGeethik ,

Ok great, thanks, pleased I understood.

What I am actually looking to do is for the selected row - in this case Acquisition - I want to show only the columns that have an X in them.

I.e. in the below screenshot, for Acquisition, I only want to see the final Title column and the final 3 columns (all have an X). In other words, column 'Extraction of Document Type' has no 'X' so I don't want it to be displayed.

tp55_0-1632835278828.png

I hope I explained that well enough.

Thanks.

Hi @tp55 ,

As far as I know I am afraid that column visibility of the DataTable can not be managed from the code.
