Power Apps Gallery Issue Please HELP

Hi there!

This is my first post so I hope I do ok at explaining my situation!  I'm trying to create a cost center allocation tool at work.  I have several cascading dropdown menus that allow individuals to narrow down the cost center selection by selected a business area (cascade1) in one drop down and then a sub business area (cascade2 based on cascade1) in another cascading drop down.  I then have a gallery with my last cascading dropdown for the Cost Center (cascade3 based on cascade2).  Beside the cost center selection I have a text input for allocation %.  Lastly, I have a safe button with the below formula.  So let's say i select a business area and then go to the sub business area dropdown it only shows the sub business areas based on my first business area selection.  The same goes for the cost center dropdown in the gallery.  It's based off the other two selections.  When i select a cost center and enter an allocation % say 30% i then hit save and it creates me a new cost center dropdown box and allocation % for the next line in the gallery.  I was so excited and thought everything was working great, but when i go to change my first two cascading filters so that i can narrow down my next cost center selection it also changes my first selection in the gallery.  It's almost like i need some type of rule or formula that once i hit the save button it doesn't allow the formula to work from the first gallery fields.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Patch(CostCenterCollection, ThisItem, {CostCenter1: CostCenterCC.Selected.Value,Allocation1:Value(AllocationCC.Text)});Collect(CostCenterCollection, {CostCenter1: "", Allocation1: 0})

@WarrenBelz ...  Below is the snagit screen share video i made showing you the new problem.

https://youtu.be/WHEgirtIRlg

To answer your questions above my gallery items is CostCenterCollection.   The CostCenterCollection is created in my "save" icon with this code:  Collect(CostCenterCollection, {CostCenter1: "",Allocation1: 0})

The full code for the "Add" Icon is this:

Patch(CostCenterCollection, ThisItem, {CostCenter1: CostCenterCC.Selected.Value,Allocation1:Value(AllocationCC.Text)});Collect(CostCenterCollection, {CostCenter1:

"",Allocation1: 0})

I think that video i just made will explain exactly what i'm trying to do and you can know if it's possible or not.

Thank you!

@reidt1 ,

Sorry, but I cannot continue with this presently - have you solved your original question ?

@WarrenBelz The combobox seems to work better than the dropdown did but i'd say a similar issue is still present.

Quick question.  The SnagIt videos that i made and posted on Youtube showing my issue.  Would you say posting videos like that are frowned upon in these forums?  I was thinking about that earlier.  Like you wouldn't really know if the links I sent were real or not so I don't blame you if you didn't click them.  I can send you any other screenshots or anything you need because I'd really like to get this issue fixed.  I've almost become obsessed with trying to figure this out.  I can't seem to find anything on youtube that addresses the issue.  Are there any other forums that you know of where I might seek help?  I thought about reaching out to the PowerApps911 website since I was following that guys youtube video's, but it seems like they charge a big fee for help.

@reidt1 ,

No - that is fine. I am otherwise committed most of today and this appears to be turning into a full-blown debugging session (we are already 23 items into the thread) with a 12 minute video to start.

Hahahaha I'm so sorry!  That's because i'd never seen PowerApps 3 days ago so a lot of the questions you originally asked i'll be honest i had no clue what you were talking about! Thanks again for all of the help so far.  I understand if you don't have time.  Maybe I should go delete some of the earlier comments or start a new thread.  I think comment 21 is the most relevant video and comment that explains the whole situation.

@reidt1 ,

I skipped the video to the part where you patch the results of the gallery. The two key issues here that you have not posted is the OnSelect of the save icon and the Items of the gallery. Also (I have not seen the code yet), but if you want to save all lines at once, put the save icon outside the gallery. This is a simple case of what I have been trying to get to from the start - when you run anything from inside a gallery, it resets the entire gallery, so the Default/DefaultSelectedItems of a control needs to be displaying the record field that has just been updated.

@WarrenBelz

The code for the Onselect for the "+" button is:

Patch(CostCenterCollection, ThisItem, {CostCenter1: CostCenterCC.Selected.Value,Allocation1:Value(AllocationCC.Text)});Collect(CostCenterCollection, {CostCenter1: "",Allocation1: 0})

The code for the Onselect for the "Save" button is:

Patch(CostCenterCollection, ThisItem, {CostCenter1: CostCenterCC.Selected.Value,Allocation1:Value(AllocationCC.Text)})

The code for the Items of the gallery is:

CostCenterCollection

If you go to minute 4:50 that's where i show the problem i'm facing.  I may need to have some advanced formula in the default or the defaultselecteditems.  I just can't figure out what it is.

@reidt1 ,

The DefaultSelectedItems should be

{Value: ThisItem.CostCenter1}

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

@WarrenBelz  you my friend are a genius!  I think i tried everything under the sun in DefaultSelectedItems but never thought it had to be in the {   } brackets.  WOW!  Thank you so much!

@reidt1 ,

Happy to help - just remember my answers are only as good as your questions - the critical issue is to clearly explain the steps you take to do something - the code on the save button and the Items of the gallery were the two key issues, but your earlier responses lead me to believe your gallery Items was based on your List (I stated this several times) when in fact it was the Collection.

I have a blog site with some articles (particularly the first two categories) that may be of use to you and also this posting guide I wrote.
