Power Apps and Power BI Integration (Issue patching data to data source)

Hello, 

I'm testing out a Power Apps and Power BI Integration so that users can interact and patch data on the go within a Power BI dashboard. The issue I have is that when I'm patching data, the error seems to be the same for all column types (treating the error as needing a "number" format as Power Apps detects that I'm giving out a "Text" format). I'm facing this error:

It seems to treat the column as "Number" even though my column is "Text" in SharePoint. I've also tried putting in a number column and putting the Value function but it seems that this is also not correct and is throwing the same error that Power Apps detects that we're passing a "Text" format even with the Value function within the text field:

I have also tried removing the formatting options for Value but the error seems to be the same. Need help on this if anyone is experienced in integration for Power BI and Power Apps. I normally solve this by treating the text as a number using the Value() function but it seems that this doesn't allow it.

The structure of the first formula should be;

Title:Value( TitleTextbox.Text)

On your second image, why don't you put the figures into the Textbox and change the Patch to similar structure I gave above instead of including the figures in the formula itself

Could you please share a bit more about your whole Patch formula?

Regarding the formula that you provided, I think this issue is not related to your AnnualBaseSalary column inside '{}' part of your Patch formula, instead, I think this issue is related to the ThisItem operator you specified in your Patch formula.

Please consider modify your Patch formula as below:

Patch(
      Role,
      LookUp(Role, ID = ThisItem.ID),  // Use LookUp function to find the specific record you want to update
      {
         Title: Value(txtTitle.Text),
         'Annual Base Salary': Value(txtABSValue.Text),
         'Target Incentive': Value(txtABSValue_1.Text)
      }
)

Please try above solution, then check if the issue is solved.

Could you please share a bit more about the 'Role' data source? Is it a SP List?

Do you rename the "ID" column from your  'Role' data source within your Power BI Dataset?

I assume that your Gallery1 is connected to PowerBIIntegration.Data formula, is it right? The  PowerBIIntegration.Data formula would include these fields enabled in your Power BI Report. If you do not enable "ID" column in your Power BI report, the PowerBIIntegration.Data formula result would not contain the "ID" column. So the ThisItem operator could not access the "ID" column value in your Gallery.

Note: The "ID" column I mentioned above is not "Id" column or the "ID.1" column. 

In addition, if you have renamed the "ID" column in your Role data source as "Id", or the "Id" column is a new measure column/calculated column whose value is equal to the "ID" column, please modify your formula as below:

      Role,
      LookUp(Role, ID = Value(ThisItem.Id)),  // Modify formula here
      {
         Title: Value(txtTitle.Text),
         'Annual Base Salary': Value(txtABSValue.Text),
         'Target Incentive': Value(txtABSValue_1.Text)

Note: Please make sure the Id column in your Power BI Role Dataset matches the "ID" column in your Role SP List data source added in your embedded canvas app.

I haven't renamed my SharePoint ID column, see below for the show/hide columns and then for the List settings:

Do you think creating a new power apps widget in Power BI would solve this? When I integrated this in Power BI, Id.1 and GUID is already there. I didn't do anything other than selecting Create new app and it brought me to Power Apps Studio.

Do you add the Role SP List as dataset in your Power BI report?

If you added the Role SP List as dataset in your Power BI report, you should not face the issue. The ID column (system column) should be displayed in your Power BI Report instead of the ID.1 and GUID field.

I agree with your thought almost. Please consider re-create a Power BI Report, and add your Role SP List data source as Dataset in your new Power BI report. Then re-create a new Power Apps Custom Visual in your Report, then check if the issue is solved.

Regarding the needs that you mentioned, I think the formula  I provided above could achieve your needs. You should use LookUp function to find the specific record in your Role List based on the "Primary Key" type column (which could identify one record uniquely, e.g. ID column) in your Role List.
