Power Apps form submission date/time issue

Hello Community,

I have set up a form to collect and submit data to a SharePoint list. One of the input boxes allows for date selection, and there are two others related, one for hour and another for minutes. All works completely well as long as all the boxes are completed. If however, only the date is selected and not the time, instead of the time defaulting to 00.00 GMT, where I operate, it subtracts 6 hours and reports the submission date/time as yesterday at 4pm.

I'm surmising that the upshot when no time is selected, is the Power App reverts to some standard US time zone that is 6 hours behind 00.00 GMT.

Surely there must be a work around for this or is the solution to leave off the hour and minute input boxes?

For that you want to change HourValue1 & MinuteValue1 to reference the hour and minute options in that card. (In my initial example just demonstrating how to combine these with a switch to account for setting a 00:00 one i was using text boxes and you just didnt change that part no big deal) they should read like

///for HourValue1.Text where HourValue1 is name of control with your hour value in it

HourValue1.Selected.Value

Just change .Text on those two to .Selected.Value

Can you try this and see if it helps?

Nothing in manual time entry

time entry filled

In the example I placed it in a label for demonstrative purposes, but this formula could go anywhere you pass the data

Switch(
        IsBlank(hourVal) || IsBlank(minuteVal),
        true, DateTimeValue(DateChoice.SelectedDate&" 00:00"),
         DateTimeValue(DateChoice.SelectedDate&" "&hourVal.Text&":"&minuteVal.Text))

Thanks for your assistance.  As I'm relatively new to this, I'm not sure what selection you have made in the items box. Here's my view...

mc00515_0-1676453807683.png

If I select the hour box, it defaults to items, which cannot be edited in the formula bar.

I'm not sure if you mean to change the items box to "OnSelect", however, its unlikely since anyone leaving the default "00:00" is likely to be not selected at all. Should I place your formula against "AllowEmptySelection"?

I have also just attempted this without success...

The error details are this...

mc00515_2-1676456532149.png

I can't make any sense of it however! Any further guidance?

If you look at the card your time controls are hosted in, there should be an update property liek this

TheRobRush_0-1676483044454.png that's where you put the switch to manipulate what is being sent in from the form for that particular card

Ok I placed in the Card Update area. It didn't like your nomenclature (hourVal, minuteVal) so I replaced your values with the ones intellisense offered. but it still has an issue. It says : "Name isn't valid, DateChoice isn't recognized":

mc00515_0-1676540613837.pngmc00515_1-1676540739545.png

You need to replace the variables and control.names in my example with the ones on your own form. DateChoice should.be named whatever the name of the datepicker in your form is.

The hour and minutes on yours are a dropdown in mine they were text boxes, so you will change those ones to nameofdropdown.selected.value

Thanks to your guidance I now seem to have fixed the issue of the date/hour reporting 6 hours behind GMT. There are a couple of outstanding flies in the proverbial ointment however, I was hoping to tidy up and that the weight of your experience might be able to resolve.

The first issue, is that despite the update code being added and resolving the correct date functionality, I still see an error showing when the app is in edit mode. I understand that it is referring to something that may have been changed or deleted, but I can't find out where or , moreover, why it still works despite the error:

mc00515_0-1676636118567.png

The second issue is really grating on me as it seems to be a design limitation in the Power App date picker.

When the date picker is opened, the current date is immediately highlighted. When OK is clicked however...

mc00515_1-1676636755059.png

The date defaults to 31/12/2001.

mc00515_3-1676637751385.png

This, in part, is what led to the other related fault about the time reverting to US 6 hours behind GMT.  The solution, even though the current date is highlighted, is to physically click on it...

mc00515_2-1676637071570.png

This may seem trivial, but I envisage a lot of our staff overlooking these details, which would lead to false date reporting on the SharePoint list. Is this a known issue?

On your form, if you click the datepicker control and switch the choice up top to look at it's default date property you should see something like this

TheRobRush_0-1676640050156.png

what you want to do is click advanced (right pane) and make sure it is unlocked

TheRobRush_1-1676640117710.png

then change it's default date to Today()

Now even if they open and cancel the default date will read out as today

TheRobRush_2-1676640267963.png

Now if they change that to another date, in order to have the new date show they do have to CLICK OK, but that's pretty standard across most applications and can't really be bypassed.

Also if you'd like calendar to report same times no matter where user logs in you can additionally change the calendars DateTimeZone

Thanks, that sorts the default date to current, but I can't determine how to get rid of this...

mc00515_0-1676645328610.png

mc00515_1-1676645531630.png

At the end of the day, the app works without error, but why would it retain this error message. I tried switching the Card name between "Date" to "Date_DataCard1"

I'm super grateful that it now works, just the perfectionist in me is frustrated by the little peccadillo.

The Date time zone is set to local.
