PowerApps SharePoint List form not saving data in form

Hi,

I customized a SharePoint list form with PowerApps and data is writing back to the SharePoint list nicely.  However, when I edit a saved entry from the SharePoint list, it is showing up as blank.  I am not sure why this behavior is taking place.  Need some help on rectifying this please.  Thanks.

Hi @joshieboy ,

Is the record (SharePoint) or the Form showing up blank ? What is the Item and the DataSource of the Form and what is the code OnSave, OnView and OnEdit ?

Hi @WarrenBelz  - the record is showing up in the SharePoint list but when I choose edit from the list, the form is showing up blank.  I am using Customize Forms so its not a 'full powerapp' as this is the app I mentioned a while ago that I will embed in a page so that I do not have to incur extra licenses cost for external users.  Below is the info.

OnSave:  I disabled the Save button from the SharePoint list and am using this code on a button I created for "Save as Draft" since the form is very extensive and users may not be able to complete in one go.

UpdateContext({locIsSubmit:false}); Patch('Buyer Pre-Qualification Questionnaire',
Defaults('Buyer Pre-Qualification Questionnaire'),
Form2.Updates,Form2_1.Updates,Form3.Updates,Form4_1.Updates,Form5.Updates,Form5_1.Updates,Form7.Updates,Form8.Updates);Navigate(DraftFormSaved)

This is the code for Submit:  UpdateContext({locIsSubmit:true}); Patch('Buyer Pre-Qualification Questionnaire',
Defaults('Buyer Pre-Qualification Questionnaire'),
Form2.Updates,Form2_1.Updates,Form3.Updates,Form4_1.Updates,Form5.Updates,Form5_1.Updates,Form7.Updates,Form8.Updates);Navigate(FormSubmitted)

OnView:  ViewForm(SharePointForm1)  "I am assuming this is incorrect now"

OnEdit:  EditForm(SharePointForm1) - "I am assuming this is incorrect now"

The DataSource is the name of the SharePoint list:  [@'Buyer Pre-Qualification Questionnaire']

Item:  I am using a single form that I broke up into separate parts on different screens for completion.  Where can I find the "Item" you are referring to?

Hope the above helps.  Thanks.

Hi @joshieboy ,

There are only so many workarounds you can do to avoid licencing and I think you have gone beyond that threshold. Integrated forms are primarily designed for a one-screen view/edit/new using the Integrated controls and generally work well doing this. Some (of the many) things you need to be aware of is that App OnStart and Screen OnVisible do not trigger if you change records in SharePoint without refreshing the browser in between and altering the Integrated controls can have unexpected outcomes. Also trying to address multi-paged apps (the more the greater potential issues) will cause problems.

I have hit this limit several times (code that is logically valid does not work as expected) and simply switched to a Canvas App, where exactly the same code works perfectly.

One small thing I have noticed in your code is you are creating new records then referring to Form.Updates (which will create more new records), but beyond that I would not be able to give you anything I would be confident would work with your setup.

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

Hi @WarrenBelz  -thanks for the guidance on this.  I did notice also that new records were being created when trying to edit.  Based on what you are saying here, if I revert to a single screen form, will this address the issues I am faced with?

Hi @WarrenBelz  - further to my previous response, as another option, can I still use tabs but instead of inserting multiple forms on each screen, still have one main form on screen 1 and show/hide fields based on the tab a user selects by using variables?  That way I still get my tab functionality so users do not have to scroll a very long form and I also take advantage of only using a single form for this feature?  You can advise.

@joshieboy ,

It would certainly help (and yes, tabs will keep it to one form), and I would tend to do the Patch "the long way" and specify the fields. As I noted, the more "customising" you do to integrated forms, the more chance of something not working as you would expect.

Hi Warren,

 I have a sharepoint customised form with some code to patch data on save. When someone clicks to the link for that particular entry and hit the save button then the patch function does not work.

@mloyalka ,

Please post a new thread on this and include your code and where it is used.
