PowerApps form (with cascading dropdowns) not populating Sharepoint list

Howdi All,

I'm having an issue with a PowerApps form not populating a Sharepoint list for 4 x cascading dropdown menus (populated from another SharePoint list). The form populates the rest of the sharepoint list without issue, however the dropdowns generate null.

I suspect the data from the field is not being sent to Sharepoint, however I am not sure where this option would be.

Any assitance would be appreciated.

Hi @Iaison ,

ddProduct is missing the required field - I think it should be

Filter(
   Products,
   'Product Family' = ddFamily.Selected.Result
   ),
   Result
)

If this is missing, you will get nothing in the next one.

I added Result and the dropdown stop working and only shows a blank field.
I've rebuilt the dependancy from scratch and it just doesn't want to work.

I think you're right however, if I can tell it to do Result, it should be a pretty easy fix as per the Update field.

It certainly needs a value - it should be Result looking a the formula before - also try Value and 'Product Family'

Hi @Iaison

Just checking if you got the result you were looking for on this thread. Happy to help further if not.

Hi @WarrenBelz ,

Apologies for the delay in responding. I decided to rebuild it all from scratch using the same process and only build for a single dropdown in order to help identify the issue with populating the Sharepoint list.

As such, I am only working on the ddDivision as they is still not populating the sharepoint list.

These are the exact steps I am taking.
1. Created Sharepoint column called Division (Single line of Text)

2. Click PowerApps and selected Customize Forms

3. In Fields, change Control Type: Edit Text --> Allowed values

4. Rename DropDown to ddDivision

5. In ddDivision Items, change value to Distinct(Products, Title)

6. In Update, change value to ddDivision.Selected.Result

I saved and published the form to Sharepoint and clicked New to create a new sharepoint list item. Completed the form with test data and clicked Save.

The form saves, however the ddDivision data is not saved to the Sharepoint list, leaving a blank space where the data should be listed. Every other field filled in correctly with the test data.

Thanks @Iaison ,

Something strange here - to confirm what you have summarized.

  • You have a field in your SharePoint list called Division which is a single line of text.
  • You have a form based on this list and one of the cards inserted is based on this field
  • You have replaced the standard Text Input field that would have been created by the PowerApps Add Field function with a drop-down control called ddDivision.
  • The Items of ddDivison is Distinct(Products, Title)
  • The Update property of the DataCard containing ddDivision is ddDivision.Selected.Result
  • When the Form is saved using SubmitForm, the field Division is not updated

Can you please confirm or correct all of this so we can do some trouble shooting.

Correct.

The form and process was completed is as defined in the guide available at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/dependent-drop-down-lists.

I've attached the image of the PowerApps form so you can see what'm trying to achieve.

Thanks @Iaison ,

I am just another user trying to help you using logic rather than following some automated process.

I have seen a number of posts where the "dependent drop-down" automated process has for whatever reason not resulted in the desired outcome. I need to tell you now I do not use it, but am trying to look at the elements of the controls that can be set to achieve your requirements. If something is not updating on SubmitForm, the first place to look generally is the DataField of the card as this is what it has to update.

However I can can see an error on the card - what is the error?

@WarrenBelz

Your input, experience and insight is greatly appreciated. Whilst I have some experience, I am always grateful for input from anyone who can teach me, well, anything!

I've attached screenshot of the parameters as this may provide some insight.

@WarrenBelz

I managed to resolve it all!

Product: ddProduct.Selected.Value should have been ddProduct.Selected.Product (with the associated Update in a label for validation). I resolved the population issue by removing an old connection that I initially added when trying to replicate.

I thank you for your time and commitment.
If I could send you a beer, I would as your insight and guidance was greatly appreciated and helpful!
