Powerapps not retaining values on edit

Hello all,

I've configured  a SharePoint list using PowerApps it has two drop downs. On creating a new entry, values are provided and the form is saved. But when I click on edit and change something else and try to click on save, I get a message saying the drop down values are blank or unknown though I can see the value being present.  I've to manually select the drop down values again in order to save. Can someone explain me why this is happening and what am I missing here?

Hi @Ram3 ,

Are the "Taxonomy Level 1" and "Taxonomy Level 2" both Choice type column in your SP List? And are they Required fields in your SP List?

Based on the formula you provided for the Dropdown box and the Data card, I could not find any syntax error with it. Please consider take a try with the following workaround:

Set the Update property of the "Taxonomy Level 1" field data card in your Edit form to following:

{
  Value: DataCardValue4.Selected.Result // DataCardValue4 represents the "Taxonomy Level 1" ComboBox
}

Set the DefaultSelectedItems property of the "Taxonomy Level 1" Dropdown box (it is actually a ComboBox control) to following:

{
  Result: ThisItem.'Taxonomy Level 1'.Value
}

set the SelectMultiple property of the "Taxonomy Level 1" ComboBox to following:

false

Note: Apply same logic as above to your "Taxonomy Level 2" field data card and "Taxonomy Level 2" ComboBox in your Edit form.

Please consider take a try with above solution, then check if the issue is solved.

Hi @Ram3 ,

Could you please share a screenshot about your issue in your custom form app?

Does this issue occur when you edit an record within your SP List?

Further, are these Dropdown fields in your SP List Required/Mandatory fields?

Based on the issue that you mentioned, I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. Please consider take a try with the following workaround:

Set the OnNew property of SharePointIntegration control to following:

Refresh('SP List');
NewForm(SharePointForm1)

Set the OnEdit property of SharePointIntegration control to following:

Refresh('SP List');
EditForm(SharePointForm1)

Set the OnView property of SharePointIntegration control to following:

Refresh('SP List');
ViewForm(SharePointForm1)

Set the Item property of the SharePointForm1 to following:

LookUp('SP List', ID = SharePointIntegration.SelectedListItemID)

Please take a try with above solution, check if the issue is fixed.

If the issue still exists, please consider remove the custom form from your SP List, then re-add new one for it using PowerApps, check if the issue is solved.

@v-xida-msft ,

thank you Kris for responding. I tried your solution but it is still now working.

I have attached screenshots as requested. The first one shows where an entry is already present. When I open it, the values are still present as shown in the second screenshot. But when I click on save, as shown in the 3rd screenshot, I'm facing the error. The values are present but still the app doesn't recognize them.

Did you customize these Data Cards, and/or their underlying DataCardValue controls?

Typically, these are based on the data source and will only allow valid data to be entered, and will enforce requirement.

If they were customized, you will need to ensure that the Items in the (presumed) Combo Boxes are valid for the data source. Additionally, there is an Update property for the Data Card which will need to be checked to ensure its passing the correct value/value type.

@GarethPrisk , yes, I did customize the two drop downs but I also update the "update" property.

I've attached screenshots for card and datacard values along with properties. I have validated the database from which the dropdown is getting the values which is a different table but in the same subsite.

Am I doing something wrong here?
