Prevent from adding duplicate to a collection through gallery.

Hello,

In my app I'm using gallery grid to update collection which data source is sharepoint list.

Apart from updating already existing records in a grid I have functionality that allow users to add new item.

In my onSelect behaviour of my exit grid button (which saves changes back) I do some validation.

Below code contains only If statement logic and first argument in case of some unwanted things happen and part of true value which is notification.

Critical part is when I'm counting rows in collection to check for any duplicates based on 3 out of 4 columns: Period, EH Bucket, Team. Without this part everything works fine but after implementing it I can see folowing behaviour:

All of these 3 columns are dropdowns. 

1) I'm opening grid in edit mode.

2) I make a duplicate on purpose to see what happens.

3) Once Im trying to save it using exit grid button I can see notification popup that something is wrong.

4) I'm changing some of the values for this record so I won't by duplicate

5) Once I hit save it goes to view mode but values that I have in a new record are the values didn't come from my last selection.

They are values that comes from my previous selection even though in fact they are duplicated.

It only happens after trying to push duplicate and then when I try push correct record.

Dropdowns work correctly if they weren't preceded with failure attempt related with duplicates.

I think that including this count rows in look might affect it but on the other hand it looks like there is something missing related with dropdowns or gallery.

I haven't seen the link so don't know the UI controls. The CountRows part makes me confused, please try below formula instead:

Actually, I used the code that you sent at the beginning and it was working the same way.

I found out what the true root of the problem is and it is not related to this new part in LOOKUP which checks for duplicates.

Your approach is not correct because my gallery grid is based on a collection.

This collection updates itself every time I click somewhere in area of gallery - because there is set OnSelect property for gallery which updates this collection using Path.

So when I enter new record in my gallery grid and then click somewhere in gallery area it immediately goes to collection and LOOKUP sees this one new record as duplicate.

But forget about this LOOKUP part.

The real issue occurs because if I do some selections on these 3 dropdowns and after picking last value I directly click save button (without clicking again in gallery area for no purpose) the collection doesn't update itself with this last pick.

I'm look for a way to prevent from that. I want my collection to be updated right after I pick last option in any dropodowns.

Hi @dasiekr ,

One method to achieve this is not updating the collection OnSelect of Gallery, but OnChange of all the Controls in the Gallery:

Patch(collection, ThisItem, {column: Self.Selected.Result})

As soon as a value is selected, the collection is updated in time and won't require user to click anywhere else.

Yes, I managed to figure it out like 5min ago 😄

I forget that I replaces my gallery controls and didn't set OnChange parameter to Select(Parent) which contains updates of collection.
