Print() Function Not Working

I have created a Power App Form that's linked to a SharePoint List.  I have read as much as possible about adding the Print() function to the form.  I added a print icon, added "Print()" to OnSelect and added "Not(Parent.Printing)" to Visible.  When I preview the form and click the Print icon, it launches the print window.  When I publish the form and click the print icon, it doesn't do anything.  Some questions:

1.  One website I read inserted a Portrait Print screen and copied all of the form fields to the Portrait Print screen but kept the original screen and directed it to the Portrait Print screen I think in the forms default function.  Do you have to do it this way or can you simply add the print function to my form's screen.

2.  Am I missing anything else to make this work.

3.  My form's screen isn't a Portrait Print screen but it has the same dimensions.  Do you have to use the Portrait Print screen?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Still need help here!  Anyone, please.

I read on a post that when you set-up the Portrait Print Screen you need to change the the Default Mode on the original Form Screen to "FormMode.View".  If I do that, when someone clicks to enter a new form from our main SharePoint page, will it go to the Portrait Print Screen or the Original Form Screen that is set-up to open a blank form for data entry.  I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Let's go through your questions and try to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. It is not necessary to create a separate screen specifically for printing. You should be able to add the Print() function directly to your form's screen. The approach you mentioned, with a separate Portrait Print screen, can be used if you need to customize the layout specifically for printing, but it is not mandatory.

  2. There are a few things you can check to ensure that the Print() function works correctly:

    • Verify that you have added the Print() function to the correct event. In your case, you mentioned adding it to the OnSelect property of the print icon. Make sure that the icon is properly connected to the OnSelect property and triggers the Print() function when clicked.

    • Ensure that the Visible property of the print icon is set correctly. You mentioned using "Not(Parent.Printing)" to control the visibility of the icon. Confirm that this expression evaluates to true when the form is not in printing mode.

    • Check if there are any error messages or warnings in the Power Apps formula editor. Sometimes, syntax errors or incorrect references can prevent functions from working as expected. Correct any errors you find and try again.

    • Test the form in different environments or browsers. There might be compatibility issues that affect the Print() function in specific scenarios.

  3. You do not necessarily have to use a Portrait Print screen. As long as the dimensions of your form's screen are compatible with printing, you should be able to print the form correctly. The Print() function captures the content of the current screen and sends it to the browser's print dialog.

If you have tried the above suggestions and the Print() function still doesn't work, it's possible that there might be a more specific issue with your form or environment. In that case, it would be helpful to provide more details about your form, the platform you are using, and any error messages you encounter.

If you set up a separate Portrait Print screen and change the DefaultMode of the original Form Screen to "FormMode.View", it will affect the behavior when someone clicks to enter a new form from the main SharePoint page.

When the DefaultMode of the original Form Screen is set to "FormMode.View", it means that the form will open in view mode by default. So, if someone clicks to enter a new form, it will open the form in view mode, not in the Portrait Print screen or the original form screen for data entry.

To ensure that the form opens a blank form for data entry, you should set the DefaultMode of the original Form Screen to "FormMode.New". This will make sure that when someone clicks to enter a new form, it opens a blank form ready for data entry.

If you're having trouble figuring out what's going wrong with the Print() function, it's important to check the following:

  1. Verify that you have added the Print() function to the correct event (e.g., OnSelect of the print icon) on the original form screen.

  2. Confirm that the Visible property of the print icon is set correctly using the expression "Not(Parent.Printing)".

  3. Check for any error messages or warnings in the Power Apps formula editor and fix any issues you find.

  4. Test the form in different environments or browsers to ensure there are no compatibility issues.

If you're still facing issues, providing more details about your form, the platform you are using, and any error messages you encounter would be helpful for further troubleshooting.

I have posted a reply to Shaheer three times and it keeps getting deleted.  Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you Shaheer for your in-depth response.  I have responded to your suggestions below.

  • Verify that you have added the Print() function to the correct event. In your case, you mentioned adding it to the OnSelect property of the print icon. Make sure that the icon is properly connected to the OnSelect property and triggers the Print() function when clicked.  RESPONSE:  Print() is entered in the OnSelect Property.  When I preview the form and click the Print icon, it launches the print dialog window.
  • Ensure that the Visible property of the print icon is set correctly. You mentioned using "Not(Parent.Printing)" to control the visibility of the icon. Confirm that this expression evaluates to true when the form is not in printing mode.  RESPONSE:  When I preview the form and click the Print icon, it launches the print dialog window and it doesn’t display the Print icon.  Is there another way to check if it evaluates to true?
  • Check if there are any error messages or warnings in the Power Apps formula editor. Sometimes, syntax errors or incorrect references can prevent functions from working as expected. Correct any errors you find and try again.  RESPONSE:  I have looked at all of the properties and see no errors.

Test the form in different environments or browsers. There might be compatibility issues that affect the Print() function in specific scenarios.  RESPONSE:  I use Firefox but tested it on Chrome and same thing, nothing happens when you click the Print icon.

Shaheer,

Attached is an image of the Tree View and an image of the SharePoint list form settings.

Shaheer,

Attached is an image of the settings for the different components excluding the design properties.

Still need help!  Anyone please?  Along with the information I entered above, I have also tested this on a different laptop and the print button does nothing.

Have the same issue and understand the Print() function is not supported in SharePoint forms yet.  Hoping that comes soon! https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/power-fx/reference/function-print#known-limitations
