Solved: Problem loading items from SQL server through Gate...

Hi!

I have a simple app that connects to a MSSQL database through a Gateway. The purpose is to insert new entries into the database using dropdown lists. The items in the dropdown list are lookup items and it is the ID of the item that will be inserted into the database.

My problem is that all items show up fine when I play the app in edit mode. However, when I publish the app some dropdown lists don't show any values and others do. I have tried to load the lookup tables into Collections on Start Up of the app, but it doesn't work. I ave also tried to populate a Gallery with the same items that are missing, but it is empty. So my conclusion is that the data is not loaded into the app at all when played in a published version (web or smart phone).

Has anyone seen this issue before? Any suggestions?

Could you please share a bit more about the formula within the Items proeprty of the Dropdown box?

Currently, within PowerApps, it is a known issue that Apps that are connected to SQL that may not show data in a dropdown control.

As an fixed solution, please take a try to turn off/disable the "Explicit column selection" option within Advanced settings of App settings, then check if the issue solved.

Thanks for the reply.

Currently I am trying to load the look up items into a Collection called for example Levels. The Items Value refers to one of the columns in the Collection. I have also tried to connect directly to the table on the SQL server, but no items show up. The Dropdown list is linked to a Card, so the Update function fo rthe Card refers to the ID in the particular table.

I have also tried to make a Gallery from the above mentioned Collection, but it is empty. This is outside any Card.

Again, the Collection is populated in edit mode. But as soon as I run a published version the items don't show up in neither in the Dropdown list nor the Gallery. Therefore I conclude that the connection to this particular table on the SQL server does not work. I have tried to remove the connection to the table, and re-connected, but with no luck. Also I have 5 other Lookup table connections that work and 2 other Lookup table connections that don't work (in the published version).

So, to your solution. Turning off the "Excplicit column selection" worked! Thank you very much for this tip. It actually also worked for the Gallery I mentioned above, so it seems like it is not directly related to a Dropdown list only, but rather to the connection to the SQL Server table itself.

This saved my day! 🙂
