Problem with powerapps custom forms for sharepoint list

Hi guys,

after reading numerous posts here and watching some excellent youtube videos, I am unfortunately still unable to achieve the following:

I have a sharepoint online list with 3 fields. I have disabled quick edit, because users should only be able to create/edit using forms, because I need one of the 3 fields to be editable when creating a new entry in the list, but be displayed only when editing an entry.

I am sure I can achieve this with the powerapps integration to edit my SP list forms, but haven't succeeded yet.

My first idea was to assign different forms to the different Sharepoint-integration actions "OnNew" and "OnEdit"). I tried assigning different forms both within the same screen and with seperate screens, editing the "DisplayMode" property to be set to "view" in the form associated with the "onEdit" Sharepoint action and to "edit" in the form set for the "OnNew" Sharepoint Action but this caused total havoc.

My newest approach was to stick with one form and set a formula on the "DisplayMode"-Property of the field value control with the formula "If(IsEmpty(SharePointIntegration.Selected.'user type'), DisplayMode.Edit, DisplayMode.View)" (also tried ISblank in place of isempty).

The result is as expected when editing a list entry ("user type" is displayed, but not editable), but when creating a new entry, I can also not enter a "user type".

Could someone kindly give me a hint as to what approach - any of the ones I've attempted or a totally different one - might be suitable to achieving my modest goal?

You will need a combination of the two approaches that you have outlined. You will need separate forms for OnNew and OnEdit.  The onNew form should be set to be a standard new form.  The OnEdit form should be an Edit form with the Usertype Field displaymode set to view.  You won't need the if statement at all.

May I add the question whether there is any reason for two two different forms needed not to reside in the same screen? My initial understanding was "no", as I can edit control behavior for each control of a form within one screen.

In my experience there is no reason both forms can't be on the same screen.  But it is often easier to work with the forms if they are on two different screens.

Hi again,

I'm glad to report I've achieved the initial goal of letting the user edit a certain field only when creating a new record and not when editing an existing one.

I'm sure there are several possible solutions, but mine is currently this:

I have not added any new form or screen.

In the advanced sharepoint Integration setting, I set a variable to 1 and 2 respectively for the OnNew and OnEdit events:

In the DisplayMode property of the data card's value control I then set the formular to: If(myvar = 1,DisplayMode.Edit,DisplayMode.View)

I'm still not sure why the variable was needed and my earlier approach to use the formular: If(FormMode.new,DisplayMode.Edit,DisplayMode.View) did not yield the same result as the use of the variable, because the FormMode and the variable are both set based on the same Sharepoint list events.

Anyway, glad it works now and maybe someone else will also be able to profit from this solution. I would think the requirement itself could be rather common.
