Problems with hidden required fields

I'm working on an app where, depending on a choice made in a dropdown menu, different fields in a form are displayed. I also want to make sure that all fields that are visible are answered, so I used the Notify function to check whether the fields have been filled.

The problem is that the app isn't able to ignore the hidden fields and demands that those be filled as well (even though the user obviously isn't able to do that). How could I get the Notify function to only apply to the fields that are visible at any given time? Thanks!

The form doesnt look to the visibility of datacards to see whether or not they are needed, it checks the property on the DataCard called "Required". if true it needs a value whether it is visible or not. Check the Datasource to make sure the columns are not required and edit the datacard to reflect this.

Also I read again your initial post. I think i misunderstood You have a condition which triggers the notify. what is the condition? you could reference the visibility of an item to see if a condition has been met to do a notify. 

it would be helpful to see the condition of the dropdown. and the items of the dropdown.

The condition is like this:

If(IsBlank(DataCardValue54.SelectedText.Value),Notify("Field X cannot be empty!",NotificationType.Error)

SubmitForm(Form3))

So first change it to this and let me know what happens:

If(IsBlank(DataCardValue54.Selected.Value),Notify("Field X cannot be empty!",NotificationType.Error),

SubmitForm(Form3))

this means that if nothing has been selected in DataCardValue54 it will trigger the notify

Nothing happens when I click the Send button. I don't know about this... I might have figured out a solution just now, but I will have to continue working on this tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far, I will get back to you tomorrow!

This is what I tried for the fields that, depending on the dropdown selection, aren't always visible:

If(Example_DataCard2.Visible=true&&IsBlank(DataCardValue4.SelectedText.Value),Notify("Field cannot be empty!",NotificationType.Error))

This seems to work. However, I also ran into another issue. Once the form is sent, there's a Success screen in which there's a Return button. When I return to the form, the Send button no longer works. Do I have to reset it somehow? The point of the app is that you should be able to make another selection in a dropdown and then fill the form again.

Ah try put this in the onsuccess of the form:

ResetForm(Form3)

then it shouldn't be an issue going forwards but make sure to save a refresh the app after making changes 🙂
