Read cell from a Collection table and use that text as a variable to use on a button OnSelect Navigate(Varable)

I'm still very new to this and am creating a form where a user can select what individual forms for which they wish to provide data.

I have a gallery along with checkboxes setup and these output to a Collection table.

I want to have the navigation button move the user through each selection by navigating to the new screen with a specific form on each.

There is a text field in the data collection I called 'CollectForm' labelled 'Choice' with the same text as displayed on the initial selection page below.

multiple.png

I want to read that text and use it to set the continue button on each form to go to the first page in the table. (I will name the form pages using the same name...eg Form 1 will be a page called 'Shareholdings in public and private companies)

Is there a way to read from the CollectForm table an obtain the first rows value under Choice assign to a variable, varChoicethen feed that into a Navigate(varChoice)?

I assume I can tell the next form button to + 1 to the row it want's to check..replace var until it hit's blank

OR am I thinking about this completely wrong / is there a better way?

Thank you

I think you are on the right track. Try this to add a row number to your collection:

ClearCollect(
colSolution,
ForAll(
Sequence(CountRows(CollectForm)),
Patch(
Last(FirstN(CollectForm, Value)),
{RowNumber: Value}
)
)
);
Set(varCountRows,CountRows(colSolution));
If(varCountRows>=1,Set(varInit,1));

Use this in your Next button to navigate:

Set(varChoice,LookUp(colSolution,RowNumber=varInit,Choice));
Set(varInit,varInit+1);
If(varInit>varCountRows,Set(varInit,1))

And like you said use Navigate(varChoice)

Here is a link from matthew devaney explaining the row numbers.

Power Apps Generate Row Numbers In A Collection (matthewdevaney.com)

Thank you, after watching the video I have at least learnt to name my data better.

I have renamed the collection 'colSelection'
Created a new page, inserted the colSelection into a table called 'tbl_Selection'

(I assume this is the only way to apply the code / ie can't see the colection in the tree view)

Using the code

ForAll(Sequence(CountRows(colSelection)), Patch(Last(FirstN(colSelection,Value)), {RowNumber: Value}))

Shows me the expected data.

Trying to expand with

ForAll(Sequence(CountRows(colSelection)), Patch(Last(FirstN(colSelection,Value)), {RowNumber: Value}));
Set(varCountRows,CountRows(colSelection));
If(varCountRows>=1,Set(varInit,1))

I get errors:

syntax.png

I got thrown by the below as I wasn't sure what Solution is / changing to colSelection didn't work..
ClearCollect(
colSolution,

Definitely feels like I am on the right path now. I also assume I would need to start looking up the tbl_Selection as it has the added rows now when doing compares / row counts etc?

Thanks again!!!

Glad you are getting there!

You can see the first 5 records of a collection by clicking the 3 ellipses above the function block. Click open and choose collection on the left, you can also see variables here, it helps while troubleshooting.

I don’t see any issues with this code:

ForAll(Sequence(CountRows(colSelection)), Patch(Last(FirstN(colSelection,Value)), {RowNumber: Value}));
Set(varCountRows,CountRows(colSelection));
If(varCountRows>=1,Set(varInit,1))

Click on each red x and see what errors you are getting where. I don’t see the use of ThisItem in the code above. It may be worth saving and reopening the project to see if some go away.

The ClearCollect(colSolution,

creates a collection based off of your collection with the added row numbers. You will need to use the colSolution or change it to another name of your liking to do the loop through the pages.

I have stripped it down to figure out the reported formula issues, good news as mentioned is the below works and displays the table correctly.

ForAll(Sequence(CountRows(colSelection)),Patch(Last(FirstN(colSelection, Value)),{RowNumber: Value}))

Changing to

ClearCollect(colSolution,ForAll(Sequence(CountRows(colSelection)),Patch(Last(FirstN(colSelection, Value)),{RowNumber: Value})))

gives me:

Behaviour function in a non-behaviour property.

tblSelection.Items

For each item in my original form - I have OnCheck set to Collect(colSelection,ThisItem) is this right / potential cause if the issue?

Thank you again, again 🙂

You are doing slightly different but I believe we can work with it.

Put your code that is giving you the problem in the Continue button on select. Then use colSelection as the items in tel selection.

Long story short you don’t need to see the collection, it can be called from memory, but this may be better for learning.

The items is like a static control not an action that’s what is currently giving you the behavior error.

Excellent, I have added the code to the OnSelect (continue button) and errors went bye bye 🙂

I figured I would then put the additional line : Navigate(varChoice) underneath it but got this error:

the first argument of 'Navigate' should be a control or screen

I assume my syntax is incorrect in terms of adding in the variable. Like I need to include the '....'s and escape characters or something.....??

I'm learnining 🙂 thank you.

yes.png

Look at the current value of the variable and make sure it equals a screen name exactly.

Ah, of course.. troubleshooting... I checked the variables and it appears the varChoice isn't being set (shows 'blank').

I can see varCountRows is fine, (currently 2)

I'm getting the first argument of 'Navigate' should be a control or a screen error still.

If I change the line to Navigate('1') it works, is there a way to denote varChoice is a variable while still using the quotations ?

I get an error trying the below formatting also.
Navigate(varChoice)

I can also confirm I have a page / Scene called '1'.

thanks again

Do this for me. Put the below in your continue button as well.

Lets get a value in there.

Set(varChoice, ‘1’)

When you use a variable it will put whatever is in there (quotes, etc).

Make sure it works, then we’ll move on to getting the table values in there.
