Thank you for taking the time to read my question... a bit of a long one. Sorry.
I have the following code on a button. The idea of this simple app is to get a new unique code (a code generating app). The app is in TEAMS and the table is in Dataverse for TEAMS.
It works great if one person is using the app, but if two people click the button at approximately the same time, one person updates the "empty" record, the other doesn't, they both get notified that they secured the new code and two new exact same "empty" records are created in the table.
Empty: No UserID, CreatedDate, ProdDescription and Facility = Facility
My Table:
I was testing with another person and we clicked the button at about the same time. The green box shows the record that the app told us we both secured. We then created a new "empty" record. The new record is supposed to be unique based on FirstLetter, SecondLetter and CodeNumber.
I tried to add a LookUp to see if, after updating the record, the users().Email was the one written to the record based on tID, but no matter what I do, all code after it is red underlined... I also tried using the IsEmpty(Errors) but also get red underlines... I really don't know why.
The IsEmpty(Errors) at the bottom of the code also does not seem to catch any errors when the app tries to write to the table even though it's not successful.
We've been able to replicate this several times.
Any suggestions or ideas would be great!

Solved! Go to Solution.
First, I would highly recommend that you simplify your formula and get rid of all of the variables and collections. None of that is needed in the formula you have.
Beyond that, you need to realize that PowerApps is not real-time. Each app session gets a snapshot of data at the time the data is requested. It will not change after that without a refresh (or after some time as recently discovered).
So the fact that one person changes a record at the same time as another and then you do a lookup is not relevant because the data to your app is still the same as it was. PowerApps will not consistently refresh its data.
It just wasn't built as a real time app.
To compound things, you are creating collections and collections and variables which are all just more static snapshots of your information. Those too will never change unless you constantly reevaluate them in your app.
I hope this is helpful for you.

Hi @RandyHayes
I played with the code a bit and I'm able to stop creating two "empty" records in my table, and also only notify the user if they actually were successful in acquiring the new code.
I tried to simplify it but I suspect you see a lot more opportunity 🙂
Because PowerApps is NOT real time, is this something I should give up on, no matter what we try? If so, we'll turn in another direction.
Thanks again for your replies and guidance.

We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”) - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024 Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods. You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately. How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Users must provide a solution which can be an “Accepted Solution” in the Forums in all of the communities and there are no limits to the number of “Accepted Solutions” that a member can provide for entries in this challenge, but each entry must be substantially unique and different. Winner Selection and Prizes: At the end of each week, we will list the top ten (10) Community users which will consist of: 5 Community Members & 5 Super Users and they will advance to the final drawing. We will post each week in the News & Announcements the top 10 Solution providers. At the end of the challenge, we will add all of the top 10 weekly names and enter them into a random drawing. Then we will randomly select ten (10) winners (5 Community Members & 5 Super Users) from among all eligible entrants received across all weekly Entry Periods to receive the prize listed below. If a winner declines, we will draw again at random for the next winner. A user will only be able to win once overall. If they are drawn multiple times, another user will be drawn at random. Individuals will be contacted before the announcement with the opportunity to claim or deny the prize. Once all of the winners have been notified, we will post in the News & Announcements of each community with the list of winners.
